Attention fuzz gurus!!!!

Please help with input for a fuzz I might investigate. I have had 2 fuzz pedals I have owned but have gotten rid of them both for the same reason...lack of eq.

I have owned a Fuzz Factory and a Fuzzhugger AB Synth. Both are fully capable of doing "over the top" craziness(what I like), but I could not dial out enough "sizzle" top end on either of the pedal. The "sizzle" razor blade fuzz is cool when you want it, but it would be nice to have tone control to take off the edge.

The tones I like are not treble heavy. I really like the tone/character of the SM fuzz. I saw a video of Doyle Bramhall II playing with a drummer and girl singer, and he is supposedly using the SM fuzz. I tell ya, the guitar sounds like it's about to jump out of the screen and kick your *(&)!! Only thing is, I'm not about to pay 300 bills for a fuzz pedal.

Maybe I'm just asking too much of one fuzz pedal.

I have my fuzz+treble booster dirt combo backed by a Fromel Shape EQ. It or another EQ pedal will fix your issues. Keep the fuzzes you love, just change their frequency signature.

Well, that is a option. But I personally don't want to go that way. I don't want to buy 2 pedals. Plus, what if I like my sound without the eq, do I have to kick it on every time just to use the fuzz? Thanks for the input.

Not got to the point I need a loop box. At this point I would just like a fuzz that sounds good with its own control adjustment. Might have to forego the koass/trick stuff and just find one that fits my taste.

Does anybody make clones of those pedals, and have modded them, like with a tone control or something like that? Just curious.

The earthquaker hoof has a decent amount of tone shaping available

+1 of the EQD Hoof Fuzz.

It really has such a versatile ability to EQ that I've had bass players use it without losing any low-end, but you could also turn the tone and shift knobs clockwise all the way and get some steve albini/big black sounds (aka all treble, no mids/bass) and everything in between. Highly recommend this pedal and it plays very nice with other boosts/eqs/dist/od/compression pedals.

Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler. Crazy interesting and aggressive tweakable fuzz and it's tone control is actual labelled "sizzle" and specifically controls that sizzl-ee frequency range.

I bet Tom at Fuzzhugger could make an AB-Synth with a tone circuit. Or he could add oscillation to one of his fuzzes that already has a tone circuit, like the Great Wall.

If you are looking for a darker fuzz with oscillation, check out the Shiva from Dwarfcraft.
