1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

Yes, really! I have a song partially written with one verse covering an unpleasant topic especially in contrast to the rest of the song. So, for only the duration of that verse, I seek to have a cacophony of awful sounding tone. I'm not looking for white noise or hum. Ideally, I wish to turn the SUCK to 11!!! :bounce :worried :nuts :crazy :bonk :messedup

If it matters, I play mostly vintage silverface Fender Twin Reverbs and vintage Hiwatt DR amps. Pickups among my guitars are humbuckers, P90s, & Lace Sensors.

My first instinct is to try a Danelectro Sitar Swami (been a long time time since I heard one), but I thought it'd be prudent to tap into the collective knowledge here at TGP. :aok

Try a boss ds1 with the tone control set ‘wide open’ - put the tone on ten. It’s pretty intense, and beehive like. (Some other fuzz and distortions such as a big muff also get quite hornet sting gnarly with the tone cranked)

The parametric EQ on the Boss MT-2 make it quite good at dialing in garbage tones.

Also you find them beaten up super cheap :aok

I’m sure there is a handwired $269.99 pedal that does this better than your average pedal.

WMG Geiger Counter, any version. It is a wave table resynthesizer. If you don't know what that is, it is because it sounds terrible. Not many pedals do it. Also is a bit and sample rate reducer.

Plug your guitar in direct. Don’t use speaker/microphone when recording

My Beehive tone is a MojoHand One Ton Bee.
But I wouldn't call it 'awful'.

    Boss ds1 and metal zone.

I have never been able to get either of them to sound remotely good.

    THIS^^^

From “I think this pedals broken” oscillation down to AM radio breakup when you roll out all the bass band. Or kill treble/mids and crank bass/distortion it’s screaming “think my speaker just blew up”

Digitech Grunge. It was made with bad tone in mind.

    This x 1000.

    I’d also throw in:
-Union/Third Man Records BumbleBuzz. Brick wall fuzz gated within an inch of its life.
    - Shin Ei FY-2 Companion type fuzzes. Can get real harsh.
    - Pretty much any germanium transistor fuzz placed after a buffer.
    - GE7 into a DS1. Mess around with the Equalizer until it sounds like an industrial drill. Could swap out DS-1 for any early to mid 90’s DOD pedal with the word “Metal” on it.

I came in here specifically to post this.

if it is unmodified it literally sounded like a chainsaw tuned to a note.

Boneshaker can be dialed in to be very buzzy if desired.
MetalZone or Grunge pedal would do it too.

A Muff with the tone full up should do it.
