Just looking through some vids for a History of Rock class I'm taking, came across this Sex Pistols clip from Letterman... Personally, I think they were just as good, if not better here than back in the day...

Well yea, I mean Glen wrote most of the songs to begin with... if he just hadn't washed his feet and got himself fired the band probably would have lasted the first time around!

Saw them at Cobo Hall on that tour... They rocked it. Steve Jones has such a kick ass tone.

I have an old VHS "The Punk Rock movie" they destroy everyone from that era. The footage is with matlock on bass, tight solid and a roaring rumble. The clash has some bit in it and they were awful. the Pistols were much better than the myth, if that was true would it be punk?

It's funny, very few people have really seen past the image and listened to the music. Yea, they were quite good... still are, and I don't think that in anyway detracts from their being 'punk'... actually, I think it kind of emphasizes it... I heard an inteview where Johnny said that they intentionally played their songs a little slower and with a certain amount of restraint to convey a sense of SEETHING anger... it worked.

I was in a hard rock band that opened for them on one of the stops in their first US tour in Texas...
We had as much business as the "man in the moon" being on the same stage with those guys... That said, the concert did not go that "well" for them; and pretty much collapsed under it's own weight when big Sid tried to bust some guy in the audience over the head with his bass. I later saw a documentary on TV where their manager Malcolm mentioned that particular concert date... He spread the bullsh#t so deep about it that you needed wings just to keep you feet dry... There is a lot of hype surrounding the history that band - and from what I observed, a lot of it was pure fantasy which existed solely in their manager's mind.

maybe the greatest musical experiment of our time.

Fashion, music, attitudes, the Pistols threw a wrench in the whole thing and finally did something even the hippies couldn't hug.

Is wasn't the Pistols, it was Malcolm McLaren, the Pistols were a great rock band who wrote great songs, the rest was all Malcolm and it was a joke and it was not punk. It was a different form of Glam rock with the high-dollar bondage pants, custom ripped and torn Viveinne Westood t-shirts and the public relation stunts. It was like N'Sync and that Pearlman guy.

The Sex Pistols were definately the poster children of punk but they were not what I would consider punk.

Even if I never saw what they looked like, their one record was the best piece of music in the genre. Of course, that is my opinion.

Remember the photos in Creem of the show where Sid had blood all over him? I had never heard them before I saw the cover story there and then I had to get their album.

Ahhhh... Yes the Sex Pistols are punk rock.
