First off, I understand that it will not sound like a strat or a tele. But you dont hardly ever see single coils in SGs, and I was just curious if anyone has ever played one before and what it sounded like.

I've got one with two P90's.

    Buzzes like a mofo!

    Sounds great otherwise.

I used to have, but sold, this approx. 1971 SG100. It was designed and sold as a student model, and had one single coil at the bridge position. It sounded really good - kind of a round, bell like tone with good articulation, almost jazzy. I'm sorry I sold it now. Oh well.

I have a Warmoth Telecaster with a pickup set in it that is supposed to replicate P-90s. The pickups do a pretty good job of this. So much so that I'm thinking of having them route an SG body for Tele pickups and putting more traditional pickups in my Telecaster body

I love my 65 SG JR. An all around great guitar. A keeper for sure.
