Hey Im just curious on what pickups you guys got on your SG's. Right now I got WCR Fillmores and I guess I've been trying to get used to them and I just can't. Neck position is alright but mid and bridge just SUCK. My SG is set up for slide, I mainly play blues through my Twin reverb (with Timmy). Definitly not looking for high gain pickups becuase I love the clean and slightly overdriven sound. I originally had the 490/498's but switched those out for the fillmores. I guess I'm looking for a low output PAF style p/u trying to get that Derek Trucks slide sound. Should I try the '57 classics, Fralin PAF's, goodwoods, or what? After I choose the p/u's Im gonna put in the RS kit and lightwieght tailpiece. Any input is appreciated fellas...

    thanks guys,
    Bryan

Right now I'm just using the 57's that came in my VOS SG, because quite frankly those pickups in this guitar sound great. Though I have been eyeing the WCR Crossroads quite hard... :)

stock pickups in my SG special, though I'm definately looking for something a little "creamier" (hate that term)

Jason Lollar "Lo-wind" Imperials might do the trick for you.

Jim Wagner recommended a Crossroads neck and Darkburst bridge for me. I told him I want to get everything from Cream to Judas Priest with this guitar.

If I wanted a Hot pup not a PAF clone I'd go get a set of Dimarzio's. [IMG] :BEER

Antiquities sound amazing in most of the SG's that I have heard. Low output, all tone.

I'm quite suprised that the 57' Classics I took out of one guitar(too bright and brittle) sound very, very good in my SG. Must be cause it's all mahagony.

I recommend Lollar Imperials if you want a brighter, more clearer and shimmering tone from your SG. They're very organic sounding pickups and aren't high output. Jason Lollar told me he originally designed his Imperials around the SG. If you want to thicken up your SG you'd probably be better off with simple Classic '57s (they tend to thicken up the SG and darken it a bit... well atleast compared to the Imperials).

Yeah, I was reading that's what Derek has in his (or at least he thought), plus he lives on the neck pup.

My '72 SG is stock, and it's so creamy I will never change a thing.

I've got an SD Pearly Gates in the bridge and an SD Alnico Pro II in the neck. Love them there and will probably never change them.

Anobody tried Bareknuckles? I''ve been thinking about installing a pair in my Standard. I think I could improve on my stock pup's.

The 490R/490T set my faded was given at birth - I'm quite happy with the tone so far.
