Ok so i'm debating a purchase, and im turning to you all for help, i own a gibson sg standard already and im debating buying and sg with p-90's are they that tonally different? Would owning both be over kill? I'm mainly looking, wanting the p-90's for a great clean-single coil type pronounced note definition style clean and slightly overdriven tones is the p-90 equipped axe the answer to my dreams? Are the tones achieved from the p-90 axe that different then the sg standard I already own?

P90's will give you distinctively different tones. They'll snap, growl & rattle more than humbuckers. If you love SG's and if you dig P90's, I don't think you could go wrong.

P90s are VERY different from humbuckers, IMO... I much prefer a good P90 to even the best humbucker. But they're not for everyone...

In any case, I think that you'd find a P90 guitar to be different enough from your humbucker guitar to justify owing both...

Who knows...? You might even end up selling the humbucker guitar, once you've seen the awesome power of the P90... ;)

They've got the P-90 SGs in stock at GC. Bring your standard down and play both through your amp. Listen for yourself. It's basically a matter of what sound you want.

I've got an SG Classic with Lollar P-90s in it that absolutely smokes , Can't keep the damn thing in tune but that's another issue entirely (time for a new nut or tuners).

I love this one even better than the Classic I had. Basically the same guitar with some minor differences, most notible is the alnico2 P90's rather than alnico5 in the Classic. The rest is cosmetic.

I in fact want to swap out the humbuckers, which are my favorite type of buckers out of my SG for P-90's.

I'd like to hear an SG with P-90's. Does anyone know of any recordings on YouTube or something?

You really can't go by recordings with what they can do in the studio to sound these days.

I've been doing some YouTube videos recently and was thinking of doing one with my VOS Special SG. If you can wait till Monday sometime, I'll see if I can't get one up.

    Possibly the best!!!

Also, I believe Santana at Woodstock (through a solid state amp).
