I’d say yes too; in my experience, all the MIJ models I own have benefitted greatly from a full re-wiring, OG switch, CTS pots, shielding and (unless they already feature some choice pickups) new pickups.

This includes my ‘88 Strat and even a Kotzen sig Strat & Tele. Same goes for all my ‘90s Fujigen Ibanez (in fact, I think the only guitars I haven’t done something to internally have been my Music Men!).

it can be a rabbit-hole, but i would encourage it! i absolutely love my CIJ Tele Custom, but did not love the stock tone. i rewired it myself, had the neck WRH modded, and added a Zhangbucker Tar Paper bridge pickup. tone heaven now. an easy guitar to learn / work on, in my opinion. also added the new bridge and bigsby myself.

The first thing I would do is replace those small pots with CTS. I did this to a MIJ '62 RI I had years ago. Then decide if you want to change the pickups. I changed mine but I suffer from CPCS, chronic pickup changer syndrome.
