Yes. The same people interested in the old guitar will be in the old amps.
Threads about amps get lost in the regular amp thread and Imagine a lot of folks in here don't go through those much looking for vintage amp threads.

I remember a while back an amp thread got kicked out. Then that stopped, so it was kind of defacto anyway.

FX, I don't know, there really weren't a lot of old FX except reverb tanks and fuzz pedals.

Sure. But let’s draw a line at banjos.

I had a crummy experience recently. I was on my way home from a gig, and had to make a quick stop at a store on my way home. I had left my banjo in the back seat, and apparently forgot to lock the car.

I was only gone for a couple of minutes, but some bastard broke into my car… and now I have TWO ******* banjos.

There won't be the traffic to have a sub forum within a sub forum. If there's half a dozen amp threads a day, peel them off into a new sub then.

Yes to including amps and other instruments. I promise not to make too many posts about my love of antique harmoniums.

I guess my main request is to be reminded of the reason for the separate "vintage" section to begin with. I don't know all the reasons that went into it, but my recollection is that among the most annoying things in the main forum were the largely pointless and uninformative "why vintage?" and "is modern Squier better than vintage?" threads and comments. And in general I feel like the tone and tenor of a lot of vintage discussion gets into historical storytelling, apocrypha, esoterica, etc. A different feel from the main guitar forum which tends more to "which new strat should I buy?" and "is it normal for single coil pickups to buzz?"

My suggestion is the same as in the concurrent vintage cutoff poll thread:

Make one "Golden Age Vintage Guitars" forum. Fender-Gibson pre 1965 guitars only. This creates a safe space for those who feel a sacredness about specific brands and eras of guitars. Very clear rules, very easy to moderate.

Make an "Old and Rare Instruments" forum with a running 20 or 25-year cutoff. Talk about your 1920s Gibson mandolin or your Dan Smith era Strat etc. 1970s Marshalls, silver-screw BOSS pedals, California series fenders, etc. @Jayyj 's antique harmoniums.

I'll say it again (because the entire poll thread where I stated it before was deleted), the "this thread only" treatment MIJ guitars got in the existing vintage forum leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. There are really interesting guitars and interesting stories to tell about what was happening in the mid-60s and '70s there which had massive effects on the industry as a whole.

That whole "hunt for the obscure, old and rare," collector/historian instinct extends to so much gear that's not Fender/Gibson 1950-1965. I could see that easily extending to amps as well as pedals. Whatever people think of JHS, he's an absolute font of knowledge on guitar pedal history. And yes, he's got his Youtube Channel and yes there's the Pedals and Effects forum here, but I could totally see talking about old pedals in an "Old and Rare Instruments" forum.

This is timely for me, as I recently picked up an original Boss CE-1 and Roland RE-201 Space Echo (which, as far as effects go, have to be "vintage" right?) , but was hesitant to post about them.

I vote for a separate subforum for vintage amps and effects. Keep this one pure as an all original vintage guitar. No guitars past 1965. No amps. No more fun of any kind.

Change your votes. We must be the purist of the pure.

I get vintage pedals and amps that I’d love to have threads about in here instead of the current forums because there’s a ton of traffic and I want to talk vintage specifically because that’s the kind of stuff I like.

Amps I get, but how many pre-1970 pedals were there, and how many of those still survive?

I think holding pedals to the same year restriction rules as guitars doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I get why that might be a viable question.
That was the parameter mentioned in the OP.

"Vintage Amps - the Clean Ones" is already a popular thread, and I've seen several other threads on vintage amps, so aren't they already in? I'd like pedals too -- but I agree NO banjos lmbo

Those threads get nuked periodically when someone gets pissy and complains. It's silly. They should be allowed in.

But not the banjos.
