    Hey guys,

I played a Matchless Clubman Reverb today and i'll be picking it up within the next week or two! I'm only buying the head so i was planning on either getting a matching 2x12 cab straight from matchless or ordering a 2x12 combo cabinet and stick the chassis in that.

I'd like to see some pictures to help decide which color i want the combo to be.

I'd also like some opinions on getting a combo or a head/cab rig with THIS PARTICULAR AMP. Will the clubman be noisier in a combo cab?

    thanks, jon

Well, here's a color combo I wouldn't reccomend. Not a fan of the looks but damn it sounds good and the price made it irresistible. I love the Clubman with the 4x10 cab.

You MUST get a Matchless cab to go with it ... the magic is in the mis-matched speakers, wired to 4 ohms. That's half the swirl, chime, and 3-D sound that you heard!

i called matchless today. looks like it's a no go on the combo, because of the clubman's EF86. That's what i figured.

alright so i guess i'm ordering a cab!

i'm gonna go ahead and get a matching cab to fit the head :crazyguy

What's everyone's feelings on the difference between the Sampson era and the newer Matchless. I've read they're exactly the same schematics, but people say the older ones are better. What's the tone truth?

They're using the exact same transformers. I believe thats where the mojo is. I don't buy into the one era being any better tone-wise or build-wise. The only thing that'd make me not want to buy a Sampson era one is that it'll likely be needing a cap job sooner. That and those old suitcase handles that I can't stand. ;)

Here's my '92 Matchless "Hot Rod" HC30 built by Rick Perrotta as his own personal amp. It was rumoured that KF worked on this one. I'm not sure about that because Phil Jamison said that an after market mod had been done, but incorrectly. He called his buddy Rick and restored it to his specs.
