I would start with an Eventide H9 Max or Space and a Boss DC-2. A Dispatch Master is nice as well though a little limited.

Tends to depend how you define psychedelic and ambient music. Got some sound examples?

I guess I would start in the same place with both though.

A fuzz and a delay. Would be nice if the delay had some sound on sound capabilities. Hard to argue with a Digitech Obscura for delay applications like that.

Fuzz? That's really a taste thing. Try a lot!

That's your foundation. Then you could start to add, a reverb for ambient? A wah or phase for pysch. You might want a looper at some point down the line.

If you're getting started though, I'd get a couple of pedals and learn the crap out of them first before adding a vast flotilla of pedals.

Remember with ambient stuff, you can do a lot with slides and even household implements (whisk, paintbrush) and delay to create atmosphere.

I'll usually throw a Wilson Freaker Wah in the mix as well. Great Wah for ambient/psych/jam/electronic stuff.

I'd start with these: dispatch master, phase 90, ibanez de-7, old alesis microverb, fulltone '69 fuzz, line6 verbzilla.

    • I have been getting pretty spacey with this setup. Need to get the RV-2 back on the board. Running from the Timebender into a lexicon vortex and then into a 32 second jamman. Swapping the CT5 and the possessed pretty frequently. Can't decide which way I like them, both pedals rule pretty hard wherever they are in the chain.

Between the Zoom and the Wet with some delays on top, I can get pretty tripped out there with my main board.

This is such a cool fx setup! What guitars and amps are you using with it?

What is the pedal at the top right? I see one of those on almost every board on this thread?

I use the same guitars, pedals, and amp for all genres, from metal/industrial to country to ambient to shoegazing.

Ha really? that's a trip man thank you so much.
That stuff is all samples, weird old keyboards and granular synths and stuff. Not a lot of guitaring, although plenty of pedaling :beer
