I am gearing up to buy (at least) a body from MJT and I am blown away by the artwork in the finishes.

If you've bought an MJT guitar or body, please post your pics and say a few words about it.

What kind of pickups did you go with? What options did you go with finish-wise? Where'd you get your necks? How is the finish wearing? How is it compared to your other guitars?

Not great photos but a great guitar. It was finished right around Thanksgiving and I have played it at every show since.

P.S. The socks really are the key to great tone.

36th Anniv in the neck and an SD BG1400 in the bridge, (in current config), mighty mite licensed neck, and plays like butta!

I've been interested in this builder for a while...Always wondered if his bodies were good quality or if you're better off sending him a Fender body to refinish?

I LOVE the heavy relic 'color on top of another color' look; like that Strat, white on top of 2 tone burst, Gorgeous!

    MJTele sherwood green body
    MJTele slabboard neck
    Callaham hardware
    Rumpelstiltskin Pickups

My tech compares it very favorably to his 62'. Plays silky smooth and sounds remarkably full, almost Gibson-ish.

Here's mine. It's my take on a late 70's Thinline I saw on the 'net, with a couple of twists. Musikraft one-piece Indian rosewood neck w/bullet truss rod to fit w/the 70's vibe, Lollar Regals. Finished by MJT. I think this is the first antigua finish for them. This is their "closet clean" finish, by the way.

It sounds and plays amazingly well.

Here's the one I built in 2011. Highest quality, IMO. Most of the bodies come from Wildwood Manufacturing in the USA and mine is three-piece alder.

I snagged a maple/pau ferro neck out of the Warmoth Showcase. Super nice neck. That's a great way to get a deal if they have what you want.

I went with closet clean on the body, because I'm not too into the relic thing and I predicted it would relic enough on its own in due time. That turned out to be true, as it has aged far quicker than any of my other guitars (all poly finishes).

I sold my other Tele, because given the choice I'd pick this one up every time!

The checking has spread a bit more since these pics. There is also checking on the back and some more dings that I don't have pics of.

A lot of t9's builds use cray or mayer necks, hence the original fender logo.

During the build - good shot of the finish work I think.

All finished - not the greatest pic in the world. I still need to get some good shots of it.

I love it. Can't wait to do it again.

    Few of mine:

Fiesta Red Strat with MJT SMO C allparts neck - difficult to find these dark boards these days - this one is a keeper.

The Lake placid blue and the Firemist Gold are both MJT neck and body and are both lovely too - the gold one is off the scale - something very special about that piece of wood incredible sweet tone and amazing sustain.

Buying off the shelf, Lollar, Amalfitano or Fralin pups. I generally buy Mayer sig necks, but also flame, etc necks from Warmoth. I prefer EJ bridges, but if guitar sounds a little dark, I go with Callaham bridge.

    Thanks.

Only used one Cray neck, which to me, is a great option for cost and close to feel of a JM. For many, dropping north of $500 for a new JM neck is not feasible. I think, I used JM necks on 4-5 builds. When not using Fender factory necks....Warmoth....
