Love for the Nano boards...
My actual baby
Aaaand another update:
I feel good about it this time.
But I’ve said that many times.
-I like the Polytune Mini 3 for tuning as it is quicker than the Stomp.
-The fuzz on the Stomp is pretty good, but the Sunface is just too good to leave off.
-The Boss DM-2W is used for any dirty presets. I also like having controls at the ready for delay.
Is it made out of latex?
I suspect you may have meant velvet?
Hey thanks man. That one in a Jester enclosure is actually a custom Minstrel I just got from Simon. It's a Minstrel v1, the last gain stage has a selector for the voicing of the boost like the serf does, and the boost footswitch is a tone stack bypass. The EQ is before the OD so it gets more saturated vs just louder which was exactly what I wanted. Its something I've been wanting for a couple years and Simon made it happen. It also runs on DC power. I also put a Mullard in the OD section and it's so dialed in now.
It isn't the only custom minstrel kicking around but it's the only one like this. It's awesome as an OD but I'm just using it to goose the Page for the moment. Theres still that high mids focus but it isnt as pronounced and sounds a lot more natural because of the 2 tubes.
Have you ever tried running it as a preamp? I ask because I just bought back my old Minstrel v1 so I'm open to opinions of how people run theirs. There don't seem to be a lot of v1's in circulation these days.
I always used to run it as pedal FoA, but I tried it recently into Torpedo WoS and the results were pretty decent.
I havent tried it as a preamp but I would run that by Simon because I know that he can make one with a preamp if you want it.
That's fair. Just trying to figure out my options with my existing pedal, though. This one has some serious sentimental value, too.
It's the same one you sold a few years back isnt it? That's pretty cool it came up for sale again! I dont think he would mod yours. Hes pretty laid back in designing new stuff, it literally took one day for him to design and build the one I have. But I think modding is more of a pain for him and it's one of the only things hes given me a hard "no" on.
If I wanted to run mine into my power amp though, I'd probably get a Maiden or some other preamp to run my minstrel into. That way youd accomplishing the same thing without having to mod yours since it has sentimental value, and youd have to spend money anyway so might as well get something that has resale value if you ever stop running it that way and prefer to go FOA.
Yep, it's the same one I had for years before!
That's a good point. I'll probably see if I can post EQ the crap out of my Minstrel for an ampless solution or just get an actual amp. I've been ampless for a while now.
Planning to use a Poly Digit as the back-end for the ampless rig, so I think I would have quite a few options for tone shaping post-Minstrel.
Art Vandelay was a latex man. Maybe he moved to the velvet industry?
My bad, you're right. He started out as an importer/exporter.
I was referring to George's "drape myself in velvet" line
Things got out of control ... where's my microcosm ...
What's the story behind the phase 90?
That's an Analogman mod.
