Have the opportunity to get a three knob 79-80 silverface champ for $300.

Just wondering if that's a decent price, and the general consensus on these. Seems like a speaker change is absolutely necessary?

That's about what I paid for my '76. Mine already had a mystery speaker in it. So I dropped in a Jupiter which sounds really good!

It's crossed my mind, but I just never did change a speaker on these.

I've had about three of these Champs over the years [inc. brand new from Leo's for $60 way back when.]

    You just gotta have one.

$300 is a fair maybe slightly good price depending on condition.

EDIT: Fortunately its very easy to mod them to sound like something else.

yep $300 is good, you could easily sell for that or more if you don't like it :)

its an ok price. now the amp is the ~same as an early 70s late 60s model but I would venture that the later ones are not as desirable. so offer less.

IMO it's worth it to find an earlier model with a pine cabinet.

Decent price. I have a '77 vibrochamp that I bought for around $250 -- jeebus -- 18 years ago. Has served me extremely well. No regerts.

and removable baffle in case you want to put in a 10" speaker. I think they
came with a screwed in baffle until sometime around 70/71?

Seems high for such a late version.

Three's a good price. Either snag it, or pass the deal on to the animals in this thread.

At one time that was a ridiculously high price for a SF Champ.

That was then, this is now.
