SimS Custom Mirror top Strat/Stratocaster (JEM style)

Here we have up for sale my first super custom made strat. This guitar mixes both traditional strat features with contemporary cosmetic looks. Very reluctant to sell this but financial difficulties means I can’t have guitars pointlessly hanging up, not being used. This is a total one off Ibanez JEM inspired super strat. This is the only one we made with the custom mirror ‘Tree Of Life’ inlay work, with blue L.E.D.s and full mirror top body and headstock.

This guitar has been hand made to my specs by top U.K luthier, Martin Sims, of SimS Custom UK. Martin and his team have been making custom guitars for top musicians and bands over the world such as Steve Vai, Hank Marvin, David Gilmour, Brian May, and many more for over 15 years now, and this guitar really does showcase the high quality work that they produce.

If you have been lucky enough to visit the SimS workshop and Guitar Lounge, you may have seen this strat hanging high above your heads as it has been there mainly for show and has not been used at all!

    Specs

    Body
The body is made from 2 piece Alder, which is a standard sort of weight, not too heavy, not too light. Since it’s a traditional strat guitar, the routing in the body is S-S-S with traditional strat contours such as a forearm and ribcage contour. The mirror top is a 3mm lightweight acrylic with mirror backing, which means if you scratch the top, it can be polished out without damaging the mirror backing. The back and sides of the body are sprayed in a solid black finish with a thin polyester topcoat.

    Neck
The neck holds the most work involved in this guitar. The back profile is a vintage C shape, like the traditional vintage spec’d USA strats. The fingerboard radius is 12 inch, great for chord work and also solo work up the top end. The neck is fretted with standard 2.0mm Medium Jumbo fret wire, again traditional strat.

The neck is made from a very beautiful Flame Maple with heavy figuring, which you will only find on very high end guitars such as this one.
The fingerboard is made from dark Ebony, which works well with the contrasting colours of this guitar. All timbers for this guitar, and all other SimS guitars are hand selected, which ables them to use the best looking, stable tone woods available.

The neck features the traditional style JEM ‘Tree Of Life’ inlay work, which again is made from the mirror material, and matches the body and headstock beautifully.

This guitar also has those famous SimS L.E.D lights in the fingerboard, which are incorporated in the inlay work, and looks amazing! This guitar really was built for the stage, and but also looks great hanging up on the wall.

The nut is a black Tusq, made by Graphtech, which is a manmade, self-lubricating material, perfect for tuning.

    Hardware
The hardware used is only the best quality, made by Gotoh in Japan. Vintage style tremolo, with high mass steel block, contemporary machine heads, fantastic quality throughout. All hardware is ‘Black Chrome’ which contrasts well against the mirror work on this guitar. The original machineheads were Kluson types, but I swapped them out for better quality Gotoh contemporary ones. The original holes do show, but they’re purely cosmetic and can be filled.

    Electrics
The pickups are vintage high output (named Tweed Tones), hand wound by top pickup maker, Kent Armstrong. These feature Alnico Magnets and are slightly overwound for that extra kick and volume.
The wiring is very special. This guitar features the world famous Torres "BluesKaster" wiring harness which includes a volume control with the Torres volume kit installed Super Midrange, magic tone control and a 5 way CRL switch.

The volume kit overcomes the age old problem with electric guitars - when you turn down, the tone goes away. The volume kit retains the highs when you turn down the volume control.

The Super Midrange boosts the midrange from 5 to 10, cuts the midrange from 0 to 5 and is neutral at 5.

The Magic Tone Control features Quality CTS pots and the Torres "woman tone" capacitor for a perfect tone control.

With all of this on board, it works perfectly with the pickups, ensuring you get the very most from this instrument, without altering the traditional looks as its still maintains 1 volume and 2 tone controls and a 5 way switch, so it still looks like a traditional strat.

The guitar comes with a Hiscox Hardcase and is set up with medium low action with size 10 Ernie Ball strings, but can be adjusted to your own set up style.

Message me for more details and pictures!

    Thanks
    Mike
