I mean.. what the hell? It was out of the car, we were reloading all the gear into the bassist's car skunk, comes out of nowhere, and sprays it. It's an Ibanez semihollow case for my AS103.. on the bright side the guitar doesnt smell at all, on the other hand, my case is locked in my cellar because otherwise you can smell it 2 floors away, and the weather sucks so I cant just leave it outside to air out.. what can I do to remove it?

I know charcoal in a sock works at remouving odor, as carbon will absorb the smell, but with Skunk??? I'm not sure there....
    Good luck

We have this Alaskan Malamute. Big dumb puppy. Loves people. Hates small wild animals. So far, it has killed six skunks that have been unfortunate enough to wander into the yard. I sleep in a large finished basement bedroom. I have the windows open. Twice, a soon to be dead skunk has sprayed directly into, or close to, the window. Skunk spray in a confined space is the most gawd awful smell you could imagine. Give me a rotting corpse over that - it's the lesser of the two evils. The last time, it took three weeks for any smell of skunk to disappear from my room. I would suggest a very strong scrub brush and something like Pine Sol or Mr. Clean and a lot of elbow grease. Followed by a dilute solution of bleach. Repeat as required. So your case fades a bit. It's a lot cheaper than the groomer charges to clean up a malamute.

Or like the other guy said, "Buy a new case."

I'd get a new case and be done with it. If that skunk smell gets in to your guitar, you'll be sorry.....I bought a strat one time from a dealer and it was shipped in, previous owner poured perfume in the case. It stunk like hell and the guitar smelled like it too. I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of that smell, and I couldn't I fooled around with it for about a year. I ended up buying another case (guitar still stunk) and sold it to a dealler...

I apologize, but I am laughing so hard I'm in tears. I really do hope the thing airs out.

They say tomato juice will help get the smell off a dog. So maybe washing the case with a mild acid will break down the stink molecule.

Then and again maybe it was a joke to see if i would get naked in the shower w/the dog who smelled like skunk and I'm scrubbing him down with 4 or 5 large cans of tomato juice......decidedly unpleasant:puh

Ah... my guys have been on the losing end of a skunk encounter a few times. Nothing more irritating than having to deal with this at 3AM.

Anyway, I got this magic potion from a local vet and I'm here to tell you it does work.

    1 liter Hydrogen Peroxide
    1/4 cup baking soda
a squirt of Dawn dish washing liquid
a bit of white distilled vinegar.

I also have a bottle of "Skunk-off" but the above recipe works even better.

Talk to Jerry Sienfield. He couldn't get that funk from the driver out of his car.
