We see discussed all the great sleeper amps that can be had for well <$500 for a 4x12 for instance. Things like old Peaveys, Laney AORs & GHs, Traynors, Sovteks, Crate VCs, etc. All things that fly under the radar or can be had for cheap and sound great.

What about sleeper cabs that can be had cheap on the used market that also sound great?

I had a Peavey 1x12 with a Scorpion Plus in it that I used all the time back in my gigging days. It didn't look threatening, but I was driving it with a 100 watt power amp and it could make some serious noise. :)

    Peavey vtm 412.

I took the ugly peavey logo off. Cab is well built and sounds great. The celestion k85s are perfect for hard rock.

I got the cab and amp together for a great deal. Sold the amp for what I paid for them both. Free cab.

Looking at my local CL offerings I see about 120 cabs being sold for less than $500. Many look great. In addition to cheap Boogies I noticed an old 1971 Traynor 4x12 for $200. Looks like a buyers market for used 4x12 cabs.

The Marshall Mode Four 280 and 400 are great cabs and typically <$350 used
Krank cabs are built great and are solid wood not plywood and are $400ish used
Avatar cabs used are a steal

Almost any cab can be bought used for $500 or less though

I'd love to get a VTM 412 to match my VTM60. Sleeper head & cab! :aok

My first 4x12 was the Ampeg pictured above. I don't remember it sounding that great but the matching head (VL502) may have been the culprit.

I probably should have said well below $500, for 4x12.

Music man 412GS cabs sound good, look great, and I've seen (and bought) them for as cheap as $75 each.

Paired with a bassman or a showman, you have the half stack fender should have made.

There is a Line 6 cab at the jamspace that I use that sounds really nice with my PRS 25th Anniversary head. Have no idea what type of speakers that were used in these things

I think I got my mode 4 for $200 with the vintage 30s. Solid sounding amp.

Plus 1 to the Mode Four cabinet talk. I have both a 280 and the 400. Both awesome. I think I picked them both up for $200 or less. Best Marshall cabinet Ive ever heard, but I am a high gain rock guy mostly.

The VTM60 is a major sleeper....Highly under-rated. Out of all the amps I've had over the last 10 years, it is one of about 3 that I really miss, the other 2 being boutique amps......

The Peavey 5150 cabs can be had for well under $500 and are nicely built, good sounding cabs.

The Mesa Boogie Halfback vertical 2x12s are excellent sounding cabs and can be had for well under $500 also. They're a little harder to find, but if you're patient, you can scrounge one up.

In the UK, RoadKill are amazing cabs and very reasonably priced. I like mine so much that I had it shipped to the US when I moved here. THAT was expensive, but no regrets. :)
