What are choices, new or used (not vintage) for small, hollow body guitars with P-90s? I saw some Baker's I liked and the PRS spruce hollows, so maybe I got to let go of the P-90 idea?

Saul Koll has a nice goldtop on his site.

I also believe that Vince Cunetto will do a chambered guitar with P90s.

I've got one coming from Bill Chapin. Scott Heatley will also do one. I know Bill will build you an incredible one. I am sure scott's would be great too.

There's a couple of options. The PRS hollowbodies are very nice, though you'll have to replace pickups with humbucker sized P90s if you really want a P90 tone. Also, be sure to check out a Suhr Classic T with P90s and the chambered option - available with or without f holes. There's a used one on the forum now that is very slick looking. Alternatively, in 2001 they made a Limited Edition model that was very cool! http://www.suhrguitars.com/4of35.htm

The Hamer Newport is a very logical choice IMHO. It has a lot of bang for the buck. It comes in some nice choices such as Korina(nice brighter tone) and Spruce for a nice all around jazz feel. The top is actually carved out instead of being pressed out. Plus you cannot forget about that Bigsby. The really bad thing I would be resale since it is a Hamer.

Yeah, saw some nice looking Newports (korina, blonde, bigsby) and said single coils on some, but housed in standard humbuck case. What kind of single coils does Hamer put in these?

I have a PRS HB Spruce that I installed Harmonic Design Z-90s. The Z-90s are *great* pickups, and are p-90 styles in a humbucker form factor.

I also think that the PRS HB Spruce is the best of the lot of HBs that PRS makes.

They are Seymour Duncan Phat Cat - authentic-sounding p-90 in humbucker casings.

Oh yeah I dont know if this is up your alley or not have you thought of the JR.'s from Gretsch like the Nashville Junior and the 6122(cant remember the name)Junior. They will have filter'tron which are different.

Ron Thorn can make you a semi-hollow or full hollowbody guitar with P-90's. You'll have to wait a while to get it though.

+1 for the Reverends. Buy one and put $2k in the bank! (and, yes, I have played PRS, Kolls, Melancons, CS gear, etc.)

Thanks for the great ideas--and great pics in that thread 2x6L6, beautiful! I do have a Gibson R4 with Fralin P-90s, killer--but always thinking about more P-90s, this time in a hollowbody. I owned a '59 ES-330 but it was the single P-90 model and did not like the pickup placement, but sure miss the feel and tone of that guitar!
