Is there a small low watt head out there that has great thick cleans and takes pedals well for stevie ray blues tones that is in the 5 to 10 watt range?

Gries 5 can be ordered as a head only. It goes from Blackface to Tweed Champ. 5W.

Also, 5W into an efficient speaker can get rrreal loud.

Ceriatone ots lunchbox. More watts then you need but the preamp does all the overdrive so volume is not an issue.

I'd really like something with big glass in the 6L6 or bigger if possible?

My experience with 5 watt amps is that there ain't a lot of clean/headroom there.

The Gries 5 can do that, although a 6V6 is the more typical arrangement.

The Gries 5. I have the combo. It has a surprising amount of clean headroom. I've used it to play with a bass player and drummer and had plenty of volume to spare. Takes pedals great. Top notch quality - hand wired. Gorgeous tone that can get real thick if you want. Incredible little amp and a very decent price.

True. I also think A/B is a big part of the sound. The Blackface Tremolux, I think, would be a worthy consideration. 2@6L6 with tube rectifier for 35W A/B -- typically driving a 2x10.

I have a Handwired AC4 which has very little clean headroom -- but I bought it for Class A Voxy saturation at low-ish levels. It can hang with a drummer, if headroom is not needed. The trafo, I suspect, is the big difference between the big and little sound in this case. I may upgrade the OT if I love what the upgrade does to my Handwired AC30.

I'm intrigued by the Swart Stereo Head - two 5 watt amps in one - you can run them in stereo.
