Small Stone Phaser Options?

So I recently fell back in love of the lush phasing sound of the old Small Stone (4800 model).

Are there any modern phasers out there that can accurately reproduce the old Small Stone sounds in a smaller form factor?

I see the that EXH has a Nano version of the small stone which looks great, but I'm worried it won't sound as good as the original.

I've tried a lot of MXR phasers, and they just don't do it for me. I can't explain it, but the Small Stone has that lush depth and exact frequency that I'm after.

Thanks

I just recently went back to my smallstone and am really liking it. I ordered one of the regular size ones new from analogman a few years back with his volume drop correction and color/feedback fix mods. Great price and a killer pedal.

The nano does not have the volume drop issues. I really liked mine, I didn't find it all that different from the big box.

I spent a couple hours AB-ing the Nano versus the last EH 4800 version of the Small Stone, and ended up buying the full size box. The volume drop is there, but the phase is much more lush than the Nano. The Nano also hissed quite a bit more than the full size box.

Do yourself a favor and get a Version 1 or Version 2 of the originals. They sound much better and yes, I have compared and owned them all and those older ones are not that pricey-around $100-$150.

great sounding phaser, one of very few that i can stand, might pick up a v2 if i can get a good deal on it because that graphic is by far the best

The analog man version of the small stone is the best sounding phaser I've ever heard, easily. Unfortunately, he doesnt do the same mod on the small ones.

i got the Nano version and it was loaded with construction defects.

went back to my old black Russian Small Stone.

only thing that beats it IME is a Ross phaser.

I just picked up a Russian Small Stone and it's the first phaser I've ever owned. Needless to say I'm really liking it a lot. I play with a fairly crunchy tone and I was little disappointed with it at first when I ran it in front of my amp (Orange RV50). It was really getting buried under the gain. I threw it in the FX loop and now it sounds incredible. I just wish I could find out more about the pedal itself. I bought it used from a guy who got it used himself so he didn't know anything about it. Were the Russian small stones only made for a certain period of time? Aside from the cosmetic difference are they known to be different from the American small stones in anyway? Not trying to thread hi-jack, just want to talk small stones :)

Just found this thread. There are so many vintage muff clones and phase 90 clones. Does anyone do a small stone clone? Would love the rich swirl of my green Russian in a smaller box. Anyone care to chime in?

the EarthQuaker Grand Orbiter is based in part on the Ross phaser, which itself is nearly identical to the Small Stone (main difference being that the Ross has a Recycle knob instead of a Color switch).

might be a bit too much phaser for some people, but it certainly lets you tweak away.
