Smaller value tone pots on a tweed amp

I am building a 5F4/5E5/5E7 tweed clone. The schematic calls for 1 meg tone pots. What effect would there be on the way the tone pots work if I were to use 250K pots? I would like to reduce gain a little, because as most of you know this tweed circuit just screams. I thought this might help a little to tame the beast.

So what would happen if I built this with 250K tone pots?

Being tone pots it follows than rather than gain, tone will change, not what you are asking for.

Build it as the schematic asks (what is the purpose of cloning something if not?), try it , test it, and later if you need less gain maybe we can suggest something.

But start with it as-is or you'll never have a reference to compare.

Use the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator to see the effect of changing pot values on frequency response curves.
