My Dad is visiting his Sister down in Florida right now, and I got a voice mail from him yesterday saying that they found an old guitar under my late Uncle's bed. They didn't even know he had it. My Dad said it is in great shape, and mine if I want it.

At this point my head is filled with visions of a vintage Strat/Tele, or an old Les Paul.

About a minute and a half into the message, my Dad says "It's an El Greco Kustom." :(

I opened the thread REALLY hoping it was about an LP. But as I suspected, it wasn't. :(

I could see Flash Gordon playing that, in silver underwear.

Of course I would have immediately thought of the vintage Strat or LP and had a bit of a letdown when I heard the Greco thing.

But I'd soon recover and be saying, "Great, send it!" How bad could it be?

So you're disappointed that you did not inherit a '58 Burst LP. I can understand that. But to call this worthless is a sin. It's an heirloom.

My Grandftaher's brother built a mandolin in the 20's when the family lived in Sicily. It's a piece of unplayable woods now, but I still cherish it. My grandfather taught me how to strum it before I can remember memories (according to my Dad).

I hope you see some connection to this guitar, and give it a new life, for whatever that may be worth.

However many you have, you don't have your uncle's.

Sell one of your other ones if you feel you must

Yeah It could be a pre-lawsuit era Greco Les Paul Custom. Those are sweet.

Accept t for what it is, and if you hate it, put it up on Reverb and don't tell your relatives. It's a free guitar. Take it. Somebody will want it just because it's odd.

^ Oh yeah... now you're talking. OP: Donate the freaking thing to your nearest music school. Better yet, send it to Swallow Hill in Denver.
