Rehearsing for a show there were just a couple of songs with absolutely no flow...herky jerky...I had analyzed the songs prior to rehearsal and I concluded that on these two songs the bass player was not very successfully attempting to double the guitar part instead of laying down a good bass part and locking in with the drummer. I had intended to wait until after our upcoming show to bring it up but it came up on its own. After us discussing it and deciding what to try to fix it we tried the song again and he played straight quarter notes at a low volume. He left without saying goodbye.

    Thank you...next?

I want him to be a groove/lock in with the drummer type bass player that he keeps proving that he cannot be. Going forward the only way I can see this working is (1) for me to stop writing songs that I care about, and/or (2) just let it go, meaning just let what happens happen...

    Sorry...just ranting here...having a pi$$y day...

Do you get along with the bass player otherwise? Was he just having an off day? If this is his attitude all of the time (ie, you can't talk to him about parts without him getting all butt hurt) then find a new bass player.

I've been in bands with members who were difficult to get along with and it's just no fun. Won't do it any more. You gotta decide if you enjoy spending time with this guy. If the answer is no, get rid of him. Nothing worse than committing your time, money, and life to a band when you don't enjoy being around one or more of the members. Life's too short for that $hit.

I have dealt with some real jerks over the years, but never had a guy just walk out. I have found texting and emailing causes more problems with other bandmates... a bad joke can come off like a real dig over text, when it would go over a lot better in person

Next time, try a friendly feedback to leave the guy some dignity instead of stopping in mid song during the gig through the mic ... “Hey!! How many strings on your instrument?!? Four?? That’s because you’re the bassist...right?!?! Then play the &$@##% bass line!! I don’t need another damn guitarist, got it?!?!:p
