I haven't read this thread but let me take a wild guess. A different pedal suggested in each post as the only valid one for consideration...

Check out The Bends and OK Computer by Radiohead (assuming you don't know them already), and if you like that lead sound, it's Jonny Greenwood using an $80 Marshall Shredmaster through a Fender 85 combo, pretty much always with a Telecaster.

Agreed. I have one and it has much of a tube screamer vibe than a distortion vibe. It just has a lot more gain than a typical TS though.

I don't necessarily have any distortion-expertise aside from extensive YT-listening of various fuzz, od, and distortion pedals during the past few days but the Suhr Riot got me interested and has supposedly been used by Guthrie Govan.

I searched for about 15 years for the perfect distortion pedal for a clean amp. Nothing has beat the Barber Dirty Bomb since I got mine. I bought a second one not too long after getting my first (I have 2 of several of my favorite pedals).

Suhr Riot is another great one - but not as versatile EQ wise as the Dirty Bomb. You can however get it in a mini version.

BJF Dyna Red is another great one.

I love my RAT pedal (CMATMODS Black Plague) for the RAT sound. But it is not the best distortion sound in a pedal. It's its own thing.

Just had a ton of fun playing through the Radial London Bones through the clean channel of my Maverick. Amazing pedal with 2 channels. The Fulltone Distortion Pro also sounded crazy good. Very thick, like my waistline.

Was the Bogner Burnley already mentioned in this thread?
Keep in mind that a pedal that sounds great at home can totally suck in a band setting...

    Suhr Riot pedal.
Definitely worth your time & money.
    Makes any amp sound better.
I still use the original, full size Riot pedal. It's been a great experience.
Using it in front of a Mesa Boogie, Marshall, and Greer amps.
Even to rehearse with an old Peavy solid state practice amp is quite pleasing.
Snag a good used one for around $130.00
    New will be about $170.00

Holy Fire GOD Pedal (Gain Overdrive Distortion). Best pedal I have ever heard, the situation side is fast and juicy. Even better than a 1985 Bogie Distortion pedal.

Nope. They all suck. You should turn your amp up:)

KSR Ceres vs. Revv G4 into a power amp or SD Powerstage 170 into guitar cab: other than the obvious channel switching abilities of the Ceres, which do you prefer for heavy modern rock tones?

I've been eyeing a KSR Ceres for a little while now, those things sound killer. I actually prefer the Revv G3 instead of the G4, though. The G4 is killer, but to me, it's almost too much, haha.

I've got a Duncan Powerstage 170 that I love which is running with a Fractal AX8, but I'd like to get a standalone distortion pedal for a smaller pedalboard. The Powerstage works great with any of those pedals.

Sticking only to "good DISTORTION pedals" as specified in the thread title (no OD or fuzz) my choices would be the following:

    Walpler SLO
    Suhr Riot

The SLOS is absolutely fantastic, emulating the Soldano SLO that was used by countless heavy distortion users.
The Riot should be the standard by which other distortion pedals are measured.

+1 for the KSR Ceres, ended my search for distortion pedals.
