You have a part number? I might order a few to A/B against the ceramics, micas, and polyprops in my current build. I will report my findings in that thread. The ceramics I have are Vishay/BC 3kV, Class 2. They look similar in spec to those old Panasonics people talk about. Micas are CDE and polys are NOS Philips KP.
Will do when I get home from my office...cant remember my password at Mouser...lol...
Here you go:
Hope that helps!
Btw, my son did something to my computer while playing video games and all I have is the blue screen of death....ugh! I will fix that this evening, I hope....
I know it's a much cheaper amp with probably lots of differences in components, but I'm curious how the Jet City 100ltd would compare to your amp. It's their JCA 100, but with EL34s in the power section like yours and the overdrive circuit is the same as the hotrod 100+(which is essentially the SLO overdrive). Here's a clip:
These are actually super close circuit wise. But they don't sound as clear and articulate as even the hot rod series. The pcb is of much lower grade. I modded one, but the traces were very delicate. I won't do it again... The mod consisted of replacing various coupling caps and resistors with the same components as a Soldano. It was time intensive and the result, although better, not worth it IMO.
Just to reiterate, I am NOT going into business again, nor using this thread as a subversive means to gather clients. This is just a journey of a tone junkie. I have documented the work for your information should you decide to experiment and build one. I am doing some work for a couple of local guys and one tgp'r but this is more as a cathartic endeavor. In November, the rest of my build stuff will be packed and won't able to be used until I get my new place sometime in March next year...
That makes sense. I was just interested in maybe trying to get something in the ball park of your amp and I was impressed with the 100 ltd. I already have a JCA 50H w/ the SLO mod, so it may be redundant to get the LTD even with the EL34s.
huh? What's the reference?
Bryce is in charge of epic-tone and sends out all of the mods for Jet City's amps and also does them himself under warranty.
Let me know when you complete the build on mine in 240V ... awsome as ever Carl
After this month all my building stuff will be put away in boxes, so i will be just playing my amps for a change rather than tinkering....lol...
...but happy you will be playing!
Bryce is also just an awesome guy to BS with. Nice guy, knows his stuff, funny as hell.
