I'm sure the chip is important, but I really don't think there's any magic in there.

I did the same to my Fat Rat. Kind of just liked the stock one. Lol. Not much difference at all.

The it's a vintage chip out of an '84 White Face Rat. I don't know if it's really supposed to be any better or different, but it completes the mojo component test.

I got a chip off Ebay from Germany and did this too. I have also seen multiple demos, and read a few posts saying that it doesn't make much of a difference and that most people can't tell. I don't think I can either-- or maybe just a little-- but probably not at all.

But dammit, I just like having it in there!

Tolerances in ICs play a roll, but the artwork is still the same between a vintage LM308N and a current, you won't really notice a difference.
