and they are now selling Vox ac30's , Fender deluxe reverb reissues, fender twins, Line 6, and fender, Peavey and epiphone guitars. Had the whole boss product line too. My brother in law works there and he can get the stuff at 5% over cost, he says his store is one of the few trial stores at trying to infiltrate Guitar centers business. They even had a private acoustic guitar room like GC does. They even had a couple of rolands v drums on display. Kinda weird seeing this stuff at a best buy

I'll have to look into this. My brother in law works for Best Buy and gets us employee discounts all the time.

Cool. I've been wondering why I've been inundated lately with adds daily from Musicians Friend and GC. i knew something was up.

I hate it for all of the smaller dealers, but it would be nice if Wal-Mart decided to set up a nice musical instrument section. Where I live I either have to drive 45 minutes to an hour or have everything shipped in. It's no problem finding a Wal-Mart within 5 minutes though.

I live 10 miles from the Best Buy that was used as the first 'test' location for the MI dept. At 800+ or whatever stores, GC would pale in comparison if this took off. I was imressed with what I saw....well kept, informed staff, etc. A little vanilla and miles from the "boutique" market, but interesting just the same.

    Oh great!

Just doesn't look, sound, or feel right...

We already hear enough GC complaints,
    What next,
    Best Buy horror stories?

    Oh wait...remember bestbuysux.org?

Does anyone here really seriously going to buy a mass market piece from Best Buy. I don't mean that as all mass market amps or guitars suck (though many do), it's just that those brands/models are readily available in the used market like eBay for a lot less $$$!

On any given night, there are several Vintage/Moderns, AC-30's, BLackhearts, Tiny Terrors, Hot Rods, MIM Strats, Crates, etc. to be found on Craiglist or ebay.

i was told at one time that best buy had a firm policy of asking anyone who was WRITING down their prices to leave... or be escorted out of the store

this was for the purchase of major electronics such as TV's, appliances ect...

does anyone know if this applies to instrument or amplifier purchases ??

Back before the internet was big, it was common practice for employees of one electronics store to go "shop" the other ones and write down prices of the competition so that the wouldn't get smoked on price. It was typical of a lot of places to kick anyone out that they suspected of doing this. The internet changed all that. I haven't heard of anyone doing this since "97 or so.

Ugh, there are a few chains that I detest more than Best Buy. We used to have several EXCELLENT appliance stores right near me and they were all put out of biz by Best Buy within a couple years. I've found BB's staff (in several stores) not well-informed and too busy/stressed to be very helpful. And God help you if you need to return anything. I hate this chain and avoid it at all costs. Personally, I'd never consider buying a piece of musical gear from them.

I hear you Leon! However, IMO, as soon as BB puts a popular item on sale (i.e. some mass produced amp) for a hundred or so off of what everyone else sells it for, people will be swarming in there and snapping them up. Money talks, especially in this economy :( It's sad, for sure...

good to know that.. i guess i am still stuck in the 20th century..lol

we have a BB, but not a circuit city (i think they are no longer in existence??) and for years i would go to CC because their sales staff was better informed and more courteous..

now, our choices are wal mart or costco for most consumer electronics if we want to shop locally. but as you said, the internet has changed everything
