It's an early 90s in mint condition hardly played and been under his bed for years.I told him he could get much more selling it so he says ok then $300. I told him he could get even more and he said he never used it and didn't care.
Should I buy it and feel guilty? Lol

Friends offer friends good deals. Offer to borrow it indefinitely for free and give it back to him if he ever opines about owning another guitar. Or give him the $300 and be willing to sell it back for something ridiculous like $50.
He sounds like a friend as well as a band mate.

The biggest problem with this kind of "friendly" bargains is that there is potential for the friend to ask favors down the road that never end: "C'mon, I gave you an American Strat for $300"

I'll give you $220 for it.

That way it's not a thing between you and your friend.

    Just trying to help.

Buy it for $300. If you don't want it, sell it and give him the money less your $300 and 10-20% for your trouble.

If I don't buy it our keyboard player wants it and no keyboard player should own an American Strat .Ever .

Oh wait we forgot the most important TGP question regarding guitars: How heavy is it?

Buy it and see if you like it.

    If not... off to eBay!

And you didn't buy the guitar immediately? Why are you not at the cash machine? Why are we having this discussion? ;)

After much thought about guilt. I'm picking it up tonight. I owe him several rounds of craft beers for the next 5 yrs.

Buy it now and give him first rights of refusal if/when you decide to sell to alleviate any guilt pangs. I've done this with my buddy over the years - works well. [First of course - have the guitar x-rayed at his expense for any possible structural wood flaws and make sure the wood is certified from the source supplier as genuine alder. Then see if he can throw in a fret-job and setup as well - if he's a friend - he won't mind. :p]
