Not much talk going on here about the BB, and there's not been many for sale on eBay either. After all the hoopla over the AC/RC Boosters I have been expecting to see more on the BB. Are these things just not that cool, or is it just overshadowed by the OCD?
My experience has been the opposite of Jim Martins. Got the BB and OCD about the same time. The BB's got a permanent home, and the OCD, although a good pedal, I thought was somewhat overhyped. I use both on my pedalboard, with the OCD on the clean side. Both are harmonically rich and dynamic...mucho fun with a great amp (Masonette here.) I prefer the BB for leads and the OCD for nice (badass) rhythm. I'll probably end up keeping the OCD too, but the Eternity could change that.
...it's all good... Rick
As posted earlier, (Wizard of Ozz and Jim Martin) I found the Xotic BB pre amp to be a VERY good pedal, but found the OCD a bit more to my liking. The OCD stayed, and the BB got sold. I also agree that these pedals, ESPECIALLLY when the OCD is in the HP mode, are eerily similar.
I just got a BB and I must say that I am impressed. I don't think that it is as scooped as the OCD and it can mimic my eternity pretty well.....so much so that I am thinking about selling the eternity which has been my go to pedal.
I have a Burriss Boostiest coming some time this week so I am waiting to see what combo works best in my rig...
I'm another one who had the OCD and BB. Kept the BB and sold the OCD. The OCD had a nice feel, but I found it too bright and scooped for leads. Probably because I like my clean sound nice and sparkly. The BB is more of what I like for my solo tone. The separate bass and treble controls are a plus too. I find that the BB has enough range that I can get a good tone out of most any guitar/amp combo. Going out to jam I'd feel comfortable taking a guitar and the BB, and as long as there was a decent clean amp to plug into I'd be set.
Wow, pretty split decision between the OCD and BB.
I went with the OCD but I had the BB on my pedal board (I had lent the OCD to a friend). I get a call from the other guitar player in the band who said, "that was incredible tone you had on that solo today...what were you using?"
I had the OCD and BB at the same time as well. The OCD was more dynamic, but the BB's longer sustain and bass and treble controls won it the slot on my board.
I also felt that the BB sounded a little better with single coil pups than did the OCD, whereas the OCD had the upper hand with buckers. They're both great pedals - you can't go wrong with either one.
Interesting that you mentioned single coil vs humbuckers with the BB pre amp and the OCD. I'm currently using humbucking equipped guitars as my main guitars, and that certainly factored into choosing the OCD over the BB pre amp.
