Anyone have good experiences with an amp tech in the Los Angeles area? Preferably Orange County, but I'll take whatever I can get. Just looking for someone knowledgeable enough to help recap and clean out my vintage Gibson BR6. I know a guy or two but I think they overcharge so I wanted to check my options.

    thanks guys! :BEER

I don't know how much amp teching Doug Roccaforte likes to do these days but the guy certainly knows his way around an amp and he's in OC. No guarantees that he's still doing this but it may be worth a quick call or email. Best of luck.

I've had great results from Roy Blankenship in North Hollywood (818-530-8853), from Steve Dikun (The Rock 'n Roll Doctor) in Burbank. Billy at True Tone in Santa Monica has a great reputation.

Doug Roccaforte's a great suggestion, if he's not too busy manufacturing (GRIN - with luck he is) Also Jim Foote at Musicworks in Hawthorne.

Billy Yates in Venice. He's even an authorized Fuchs guy. I can't say enough about him. He does all Trutone's work.

Yeah, that's quite a "haul" from OC, though, Mike.

Billy Yates, Venice Amplifier Co. & Jim Foote, Musicworks (Lawndale, CA) are two who have done work for me and turned out well. You'll wait longer for Foote, you'll drive longer for Billy...

I've had great work done by Jerry Blaha in West Hollywood.

I blew a tube once in a Peavey classic 100 head; it burned a hole clean through the circuit board. Jerry totally almost rebuilt the head, and it sounded better than it ever had.

He can be reached at (323) 654-4908, I believe. :JAM
