@Achewood_Johnson were discussing amps, and he asked me what were some examples of the “classic” SLO tone. Other than George Lynch on the first Lynch Mob album, I couldn’t think of any off the top of my head.(plus, GL always sounds like him no matter what amp, so I figured that wasn’t a great example)
EVH used on at some point.(?)
    Examples?

Most of EVH For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album is apparently a SLO.

As I recall, Ed’s sound/tone was changed quite a bit when he switched to the SLO?(of course, it still sounded like him, just more “refined”)

Specific Clapton song, “Five Long Years” - From the Cradle. Most of the stuff he did in that era was either SLO or HPTT.

Widespread Panic’s late guitarist Michael Houser used SLOs and they can be heard on their live recordings and studio LPs between 1997-2003. Wish I could justify having one.

Ratt's Detonator album is a good example of a higher gain/hard rock tone.

Over the years Mike kept a pretty good track of various players, although every one is not an SLO player.

    http://www.soldano.com/artists/

Here Reza captured a SLO100 for average tone in a recording, he pulled two tubes and had to keep the volume down in the first vid. These amps have a lot of giddy up, so a lot of yt vids have problems capturing the tones outside of studios. Second vid gets bonsai..

Reza ~ SLO w/ Creambacks , should make you want one.

    Any questions ;-) heres Mike...

I think Mick Mars also used it quite a lot back in the day.

OMG!!!!!! Those Alnico Creambacks sound WICKED!!! I would love to try a set of these with my Naylor SD60, which is an amp that loves V30's......but these sound richer to my ear! ;)

They are what I’ve been using with my SD60 for awhile now :).

All of these are nice examples of the SLO. I love Knophler’s tone with one on “On The Night” live album.

Wow!! Really!? I have never paid attention to speakers, other than the stock GB or V30 types.....

To me, I have always thought that the SD60 is a dark-sounding amp, and the V30 balances it out.....

How do you find the Alnico Creamback vs the V30, tonally?

This is perfect timing as I am looking to buy a new cab, and these speakers could be great!

    Thanks for the help!! :)
