A friend owns a marshall mg 15 and wants to know if it can be modified, or improved. Anyone mod these amps?

    You might ask here: www.ssguitar.com/
This is a topic that few people are apparently interested in, you see all kinds of tube amp tweaks but very little on the SS side. I have found that the old Peavey solid state amps are good platforms to mod - I've switched out op-amps on a Backstage 50 with some mild improvement and altered the distortion circuit, but haven't looked at the Marshall solid state amps. Generally the small solid state amps are greatly improved with a speaker swap, as the stock speaker is usually pretty cheap.

You MUST try a premium speaker/cab at the right impedance, usually 4 ohms.
Then, after actually hearing what the amp sounds like, decide about mod direction.
SS amps certainly can be altered.
Considering the price of the amp, if you can't do it yourself, it won't likely be worth it.

Pedals. You can use them with any amp.

You can also look into some pedal type mods. Is there a diode clipping section? One of the big pedal mods is to change the diodes out, and change the quantity to adjust how a pedal (or in this case an amplifier) distorts.

    Do you have a schematic?
