Something just attracts me to the TopHat Super Deluxe 2x12

This beauty is not mine, but I sure do wish it was . Clippage of Top Hat amps is not abundant on the internet, as far as ive seen, but what clippage I have heard of this model of amp has literally blown me away.

Who here owns one, do you have any clips you can include in this thread, audio or video ?

The clean sounds Ive heard from TopHats have been nothing short of absolutely sensational. How does their internal point to point wiring compare to something by Old Hiwatts or current Cornfords ?

im trying to decide between the super deluxe and club royale!
it's a tough one. the new SD's can handle 6L6s, 6V6s and EL34s.
also someone on the tophat forum posted a pic of their new club royale (mkII) and it had a new design, cosmetically.looked really cool.

The wiring on Top Hats is awesome...great amps. The Super Deluxe is very cool...takes EL34's and 6l6's!

I'd get the latest version SD if you can find it.
As you said it can handle a wider variety of power tubes; which to my
way of thinking will really allow you to get sculpt the feel of the power
section. You can also run with the stock 12AY7 in V1 or go with a
12AX7 for a hotter signal thru the preamp.

Goose the front end with an OD,treble booster,and/or fuzze(s)and you'll
have a lot of clean>dirty->fuzzy->chimey tones on your palette.

Single coils or humbuckers; doesn't matter .
All manner of guitars sound great thru TopHat circuitry .

..and yes, the wiring is a thing of beauty.

We need better high quality clips of the different TopHats

I'm Surprised Cliff and Brian haven't done some together in Cliffs studio

I don't have home recording gear How about some of the collectors putting their Tophats through their paces.

I'd love to hear the Super Deluxe, The King Royle And The Ambassador 100

Punch in for a couple of tone swipes and post some stuff or

If you know any more links from some players please post them

enjoy the music
Groovey.

PS
Roky do you really think the Supreme Sixteen can handle a 4X12?

You tell me . :D
I would think_ so !

When the first 16's were en route to the dealers I was seriously thinking
of buying one to use with my old Marshall Lead/Organ 2x12 cab.

This cab is 41" H (on casters) and is the standard Marshall width and
depth. With just 2 vertically mounted speakers, it's not heavy, at all.
I wanted to have the arena rock look at gigs where I couldn't use a
30-50 watt amp, let alone anything louder.

Tried the amp and loved it(no surprise, there)
I'll still add a 16 to my arsenal, at some point in time.

If I really just had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the SD
because of what you can do pwr. tube-wise.

various 6L6s,5881s,various EL34s,KT77s(!)...and no need to re-bias

I like to try different tubes.:crazyguy

Super Deluxe is a great amp, I had #11 for a year or so. Very versatile with 12AY7 or 12AX7 in V1 and even more so now with the ability to run different power tubes. Tonally it's a mix of Vox and Tweed Bassman and gets into JTM45 territory when pushed. Great volume and headroom for club gigs. Extremely well built, lightweight & compact for a 2x12, and Brian's customer service is second to none.

I've got some clips of my SD from a gig using different pedals but nothing that shows the amp by itself unfortunately. I did some clips of my Club Deluxe and Emplexador but was still learning about mic placement and recording technique and they came out less than stellar...maybe I'll take another shot at it soon

Cool, yeah it works that way sometimes :D I can't say they are the best out there b/c I haven't tried every amp but they are the best I've found so far for my style and the tones I like and outside of curiosity I am not really interested in continuing "the search". Give Brian a call sometime if you have any questions, he really knows his stuff and is very willing to share info, he & his wife seem like good people....

BTW I know from other posts that Make'N Music (sp?) in Chicago is a dealer and usually has some THs in stock....

Singular, you can't make a wrong choice.
There maybe a TH dealer in the Way North of Europe Ask Brian
Roky
Yep it works 4X12 = sweet 16 uh Supreme Sixteen... but how long will those Mullard EL84's last on the EF86 channel @ 3pm?

Well there is only one way to find out!

video:

Wiring on my #12 was Hiwatt-like:

The SD is a great amp, it has reasonably loud cleans (esp with Fender single coils), overdrives beautifully (esp with humbuckers), takes pedals well. All in a reasonably lightweight 2x12 combo.

So Riff what toobs you got going in there? It looks like 3 different pre-amp toobs. Plus a Pair of what Sylvania??

ya i've checked out dealers, had great conversations with Brian via email and Teleplayer here, both who shared all their info and experience and answered everything i could think of, as well as everyone else in other threads discussing Tophats. Im gonna go with the SD.

actually, I've a question for those of you changing out tubes in them, whats the most common reason for most people here changing them out for others?
