My tech says it's bad, so...any leads on where to look (besides ebay)? I'd like to get a Drake close to the original.

    Thanks.

    Here's my 2ยข:

    - I'm not a fan of Drakes, worked on more broken ones than any other single vintage brand

    - if it were me, I'd call up Mercury Magnetics and get a Tone Clone. Will cost you a little more but will be well built, reliable and will deliver the tone

Or better yet, have Mercury rewind the original. That way it will still look completely original, but be better and working.

Hey, that's an idea...I'll check into that, thanks.

Still open to finding an original...I'm sure the Mercs are nice, but a bit costly.

I've had a good experience with an MM replacement in a Vox AC15 R/I. That being said, there are many choices out there that are less costly if you don't want to spend as much.

The Hammond P-T1750U is a direct replacement and about $80.00. It's probably a better made part than the original.

A 1977 100 watt OT would be a Dagnall, not a drake. I've probably got one here, from one of those multi channel master PA amps IIRC. Where are you based?

Dagnall, that's the name I was trying to think of...

I sure hope the old ones are better than the new ones they're putting in the Orange amps. I've replaced four under warranty for different customers in the last year or so (most with US-sourced MM replacements).

I'd work through your tech on this and am quite
sure he can source one for you?

Postage from here in UK is a killer, at least as much as the Tx itself, probably more. I checked what I have and I have 3 OT's, the guts of which are almost identical wound on a black plastic bobbin, but one has a definite older look about it.
