Sovtek Mig 50 too clean

I own a Sovtek MIG-50 and have grown a little tired of the cleanliness of the sound. Buying another amp aside, what od/distortion pedals would you recommend. I've tried Boss Blues driver, tube screamer, and fulltone ocd, not enough balls.

Try a boost - just overload the bejeesus out of the input section.
Or, higher gain preamp tubes - maybe an RFT?
If all else fails, trade it for a MIG-60. No lack of dirt there!

Are you crankin' that sucker to 11? If not, I'd buy an attenuator and check it out cranked. If you need a "second channel", get an OD then - I'd suggest a Timmy.

I play through the 2nd channel, but at a higher volume level A. It's too loud, B. Does not give me enough breakup. I guess I need a distortion and boost or overdrive? I love the way the amp sounds plus I don't have enough money to buy a different amp. I've been looking at the Maxon ROD 880 as an option or the emma reezafratzitz. I play in a metalish sort of band and want a nice bold metal sound, but not too van halenish if you catch my drift. no boss metal zones lol

I have no real advice to offer .
I love the MiG 50 ,have been a user for 11 years
My #1 amp in Europe
What was called metal in my day (and it was), Lizzy/Preist/AC/DC , the MiG does perfect
I need another one
I'd agree with a Rat
I usually have mine cranked ,although I know I've tweaked it for a little xtra gain ,I can't remember what ,maybe a little mid boost .
I use a wide range of guitars/pickups through it and an old DoD 250 or AYH Blood Drive for a little juice on the solos

Dirty Little Secret sounds like a great modded Marshall tone from the clips that I have heard. I also really like Wampler's Marshall and Recto type pedals.

I gigged a Mig 60 for years by cranking the master for a loud clean tone and then hitting the front end with dirt boxes. Huge, warm, and smooth distortion tones. Bump up the treble and mids a touch and it would cut right through too.

i owned a mig50 for about a month but sold it for the same reason. the gain was great when i cranked the hell out of it, but at low or mid volume it was very clean. an attenuator would probably be the best solution.

I have a post phase master,installed x-mas day 2003 if I remember correctly
Quite a bit less expensive than an attenuator

I think you will dig the reezafRATziz if you pick that up.

Rat type should be a good mesh with that amp for the type of sound you want sort of a classic early metal sound. I wouldn't go with an overdrive personally unless you get 2. I think you are closer to what you want with a Rat type.

What speakers are you running it through? That might be a factor in the cleanness of the sound too.

+1 on the rat. I used to run a rat into my old mig50 for the rawk tones. I used to also use a y splitter or an AB box to run both channels at once. Also I found that the volume of one channel effects the sound of the other even when plugged into only one channel. Weird I know but that's how mine was...

If an OCD into a Mig 50 isn't enough 'balls' for the tone you're looking for--- and you've tried other OD pedals and still not getting the sound you want, a metalish sort of tone---- then i'd say the Mig 50 isn't the amp for you--- if you're talking a more modern metalish tone vs a boosted vintage tone then the Mig 50 isn't going to get there without major mods: Cascaded V1, major re-voicing, stiffer filtering, etc.
Might be better to start out with an amp that's closer to what you want..........gldtp99

Thanks for all the advice. I think i'm gonna stick to straight distortion for right now with the amp cranked. Looking at a subdecay blackstar, maxon rod 880, or black plague by cmatmods. Eventually I will upgrade, so if anyone wants a MIG 50 in a few months, I'm your man lol.

I had one for years and i used to play on both channels at the same time with a Y cable, that helps to have more gain without effects
