im with you, man. i had one for a couple years and sold it recently. i couldnt get ANY gain out of it. it was very JTM45ish to me, Marshall-style, crisp Plexi cleans. ive heard people say JCM800 type gain and i have no idea what theyre talking about.

I had a Mig 100H and a Mig 100. The H was awesome JCM800 style gain, the regular (older) 100 was not great clean or distortion. You may have a regular 50. I believe that the "H" stood for High gain.

Depending on what kinda music you're playing, why not just get a clean boost?
Hiwatt amps are so highly respected for their clean tones and how pedal friendly they are.If you like the tone of your amp but just want more gain,I'd get some pedals and have fun with it.

    i had a mig 50, 60 and 100, i'm playing now with the Mig 60 (modded).

I still miss the 50 sometimes. The truth is that mine was very easy to get cranked,
much more with the II input than the other, anyway i used to play with an Y cable to get more gain and at gig volume i could get a lot of gain, mixing the two "channels".

Maybe it's biased cold, it's just an idea, im not a tech...

    I had 2 Mig50s .. I miss 'em . Sold 'em via the usual GAS-related issues.

They were essentially clean-ish amps.. Bassman-esque.

Worked great with pedals or without, but they were not late 60s plexis.

Aren't the Midgets the high-gain ones? Mig 50 is pretty much vintage.

Let me understand: Does your amp not have gain, or do you just not like its sound when the gain is cranked up?

I've played thru a Tiny Terror, and it had quite a bit of gain IMO. Well, I should say it had about JCM 800 levels of gain. If your idea of high gain is more, say, Dual Rectifier, then yeah, I guess it isn't very high gain. Anywya, like most tube amps I really had to turn it up loud to get to the best sounds but when I did, the one I played I through kicked a$$. It was a very cool little amp.

There were 2 basic varieties of mig50. One had master volume, the other did not. The mv model was smaller, and referred to as the tube midget. The non mv model that I had was excruciatingly clean. The tube midget mv model I had is one of the few amps I really regret selling.

Another poster on here that I know has a tube midget and his sounds fantastic as well.

You're exactly right. The Tube Midget had way more gain than the Mig 50 .

The Mig 50 is not suppose to have a lot of gain. It is pretty much a Bassman/JTM-45 clone with a solid-state rectifier. I think it sounds great when clean and when cranked, but it's not a high-gain amp in the least. Not supposed to be.

It is the Mig 60 that is similar to a JCM800. The Mig 60 will tear my head off if the gain is cranked and the master is above 1.5.

I have a Mig 60 and I've had a Mig 50. They are nothing like each other, really.

IIRC, the Mig 100's were all more in the JCM800 range, although there were a few variations, and I could be wrong about that. I think the 100H was the highest gain of them all. As someone already mentioned, the Mig50H is a much different amp than the Mig 50, even aside from the lack of an MV on the 50.

Try the Y cable, its cheap and you can mix the two inputs the way you want.

Crap... I forgot that one! Thanks! I think this is the first time I've ever seen every model listed in one place on the web...
