I'm looking at a sovtek Mig 50 on ebay and have heard these are similar to a JTM45. So what range of tones do these actually produce? The chimey cleanish JTM, the more balls out sound or both?

I did a quick search but didn't come up with alot of specifics.

They aren't that similar to a JTM45. More similar in sound to later JMP's. More balls out sound.

Definitely NOT in the JTM 45 camp. Much more like a mid 70's 50 watt JMP. Super cool amps and great bang for the buck factor, but not JTM 45 like at all IMHO.
    Peace...

the other guitar player in a past band used one. Not a bad amp for the money. The cleans are really not good but it was good on the big end. It was kind of a in between amp..good for classic rock for sure. They are easy to mod though.

    Thanks for the heads-up. :AOK

I'm hunting for something with more of the cleanish JTM vibe going on.

I have a mig100 and love it. but yeah, more like the JMP's and not the JTM. I would say Traynor's have a brighter and cleaner clean channel. the sovtek is dark and dirty. :RoCkIn

I found this video of a girl i used to play guitar for.
This is a TV show recorded live 13 years ago. The days of hair.

    I used a MIG 50 into a Marshall cab with 4x greenbacks.

I loved this amp. Really versatile. Loves pedals. Loads of fun.
If your budget is around the sort of money they go for I highly recomend one.

Thanks, it was a load of fun. Great band.
We did a reunion gig a couple of years ago. She's been in New York doing stand up and arts festivals etc. She's now in Germany but keeps threatening to come over to the UK to hook up and play.

I guess thats a pretty good rep/endorsement of what the Mig50 does/can do (great vid BTW). We can put to bed the notion that a Mig50 does anything close to a JTM45 clean tone:)

    Thanks for all the reply's,

I guess this is now a Sovtek Mig love thread:AOK
Thats ok, I was just looking for info on the basics of the Mig50 sound!
FWIW I had and sold an 80';s JCM800 vert input combo, I just wanted a JTM clean/jangly/chimey sound:AOK

    Interesting.

I'm not saying anyone's wrong, but if you search on this board there are several threads that state it is basically a JTM45 and it's the H and Midget that are not.

I had always heard the 60 was more like a JMP.

I used to own a Sovtek MIG60 and I thought it sounded very similar to a JTM45

That's exactly what they are. A JTM in a $500-ish package. They sound great and take pedals well.
