What is the fuzz/distortion On that song. Big muff?
I remember them mentioning a big muff in an interview at the time, and a phase 90
To me it seems like the same model the pumpkins might have used.
Man, this thread just reminded me of how great those guys were! Totally tuneful, Bowie-esque, Brit Pop for the modern age. They should have taken over the world. There's just no justice...
Hmmm, I just googled them and they're back with a new album. COOL! (Sorry to digress like that, but someone else somewhere will dig that news.)
I hear ya. I felt like Hum was overlooked severely at the time as well.
But I remember seeing them for the 1st time on Leno was all into them after that. Their subsequent albums were damn good as well!
and 20 years later...
they were great live too.I heard they are back together.
Love Spacehog, but damn, was that Leno performance awkward to watch.
Violet Race, Mungo City, great tunes on their 2nd album too.
So which muff is it?!?!? C'mannnn
Anyone know what was used to create that synth sound on In the Meantime? It can be heard in the beginning of the song - comes in at about 0:29 on the Leno video already posted above. I don't see anyone playing a synth. Looked it up and there was no synth player listed as being in the band. Yet it sounds exactly like a synth.
Sounds like a Minimoog to me, although I'm no synth expert.
Yeah, it does doesn't it. Definitely an analog synth of some kind and if you look at what the guitar players are doing it doesn't match the synth sounds, so it's not a guitar synth of some kind. Unless the bass player is doing it somehow - maybe triggering a loop?
My guess is that it's triggered somehow.
Or maybe Leno's band is providing it.
always amazed that guy could sing that lead and play that bassline simultaneously. It's a little easier with a pick...but still.
What's interesting I noticed you can hear it on a few of their other videos of In the Meantime. It's noticeable on the Letterman video from about the same time also, though not as prominent, and in a few of their other live videos from the time and newer. It also seems to change in some of the videos, like it's being played by a keyboard player, yet there is none around. I guess sampling was pretty big at the time, so maybe that explains it.
Wow, so many Spacehog fans... ! I knew this place was cool for more reasons than one.
Damn, now I'm off to find my Jellyfish CDs!
Spacehog, Hum, Jellyfish, Teenage Fanclub.. what other criminally underrated 90's bands?
I just wanted to get in due to all the bands you cats are naming!!!
I still can't find what these dudes use for that distortion/fuzz. Spacehog pedalboard pics? Anyone?!?!?!
No idea about the gear. Love Spacehog. The soundtrack of my late teens. The Chinese Album and Resident Alien had a huge collection of great songs.
