    4 min & counting to decide ...

ah, hopeless. there are now three white ones left. :( fly away, my sweet ducats, fly away ...Well ... i sold my original SatV, maybe this one will recapture that sound. I just remember that one time, stepping on the SatV at a gig and the sound parted the sea ...

Was originally saving to buy an Explorer, but saw this and since I also wanted a new OD I popped for the red. Standard is probably fine, but I like red and am curious what effect the extra care supposedly put into the ltd's sounds like.

Well, you’re not alone! I read the OP’s post, bought a standard as I didn’t care about the color, came back and read the other posts and bought a black one just to be safe.

    Gotta love these feeding frenzies.

Nice picture:aok Can you see any numbers on those little black transistors?

In the deadendfx document the Bs170 and the 2x LND150N3-G are all Mosfet devices but they look pretty much just like the 2N3904 (which is SI). All are black half cylinder pieces on top of three metal posts. The SI could just be there to boost the signal after clipping. It might not even be clipping on its own. In any event that particular clone seems to use 3 mosfet and one SI.

Anyone know which transistors are clipping in there?

I hear ya! Same type of housing as a lot of Si transistors, but they do appear to mostly be MOSFETs. A 2017 schematic by DIGI2T/Dead End Effects indicates them to be a pair of LND150N3-G, a 2N7000, and a 2N3904. The gut pic is just something I found online and my Saturn V isn't with me at the moment.

Reading into it further, seems the 2N7000 and the 2N3904 are in there for the footswitch bypass scheme.

I always loved that big lytic in there! The SV is my favorite pedal.

I love being able to be relaxed about this. I'd be happy with a standard version, and I don't have to jump on it.

Can anyone compare the Saturn V to the Mercury III/IV? I’m curious about the tonal differences. Maybe the Saturn is more rangemaster, where the Mercury is more neutral tone shaping? I’d love to know.

I’m not quite relaxed because part of me wonders if the meticulous “reverent” fully handmade versions which may or may not include rare components will sound better... but I suspect the difference will be pretty minimal.

Bad for your brand to release a subpar version and a top tier version. Corporations do it, little boutique pedal companies don’t really. Mojo parts are drying up - smart builders are getting new production parts to their spec.

Aphelion owners must have breathed a sigh of relief when spaceman released the pic of the pedal showing only VI.

I’d say the opposite. Saturn just sweetens things up. Merc changes your overall sound more, imo.

Also, slam the Saturn with a boost pedal and it’s an incredible high gain pedal. Kind of Marshall-y.

Yeah the Mercury is like an extension of the tone controls on your guitar and amp, but the Saturn is like an extension of the volume knobs on your guitar and amp.
