...I've been asked to join The Los Angeles Electric 8, a group of eight electric guitarists that does chamber music written for them as well as transcriptions of existing chamber music. I auditioned for them about a week ago when I found on their website that they were looking for a new member. They sent me a part to the sherzo movement from the Shostakovich Op. 11 Octet, originally for double string quartet. It was a really challenging part but I worked my tail off on it all week and played it with them on the audition. I felt it went really well but they had some others they were committed to hearing. I just got "the" e-mail earlier today saying they'd chosen me. I'm really, really excited about this, both for the concept - it's a chance to combine my love for contemporary chamber music with my love for the electric guitar, two worlds that have been hard to reconcile sometimes - and for the potential it has in the future as I can hopefully exert some influence. http://www.losangeleselectric8.com/ I've just started receiving PDF's of music to learn and my first gig with them will be March 21 in Santa Barbara, CA. If you're in the hood come check it out!
