    Hi,

I have been fooling around with the NI Guitar Rig 2 package for a week and out of that came a few tunes.

This one is sort of a funky 12-bar blues thing.

Bass is a early JV series Jazz Bass using the new Ampeg amp sim. Sounds great in my ears.
Three clean rhythm guitar tracks (left, centre, right) were recorded with a Suhr Classic. Amp model is alos the Ampeg bass amp. I plugged the Suhr into the sound card and I was just checking to see if I got any sound and the bass amp was still active and it sounded like a very good funk sound. Just made a few adjustments.
The lead sound is a PRS McCarty using the Twang Reverb model with a Skreamer in front.

    Here's the tune:
    Spare Frog

    And here the backing track:
    Spare Frog Backing Track

This tune (and the other I did while reviewing GR2) was a quickie and I did not spend much time at mixdown so please take it for what it is. Just a bit of fun!

Hope you enjoy it and I am looking foreward to comments, critique and questions!

    Cheers,

    Mats N

    Happy New Year Mats!

The tone reminded me of a wah-wah pedal half open.

    Nice work.

    Hi Loren,

    Thanks for listening!

About the title. The project started out as "Funky 12-bar" which it sort of is but I thought it sounded boring. Then I have heard a lot of frog jokes lately and I usually try to keep a story as a "spare" in case a situation warrants a joke. So I think it started out with me thinking about a spare frog joke and when I thought about it I just thought spare frog and that made me realize that it would be a funny title for a tune. Glad you liked it.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

    Hi Weldaar and Fig,

    Thanks for the usual encouragement!

On topic but also somewhat off is that you guys have made a very problematic time of my life much easier. Last year was tough where I felt I had no or little value anywhere except with my sons. But as they are 11 and 13 I also needed some grown up validation. This I got from my fellow gear and sound clip enthusiasts here at the TGP. My job has royally sucked and they have treated me illegally bad so yesterday I negotiated a deal and resigned. Without the positive feedback from the TGP I seriously don't think I would have had the courage to do that. So thanks to everyone involved.

If you hear of anyone in Sweden wanting someone for a market communications job I'm available. I also do translation to and from swedish to english as well as write manuals.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

I love it, Mats!!! It's such an upbeat groove, makes me wanna dance. (Then I remember I only do that when drunk. lol) Thanks for the backing as well. I'll jump on this one for sure!

    Hi Norm,

    Thanks for the positive words!

Looking forward to your take. I seriously doubt you want to do a take on the BT I'm presently working on. It's so different from the usual me that I myself have a hard time playing to it. :JAM

    Cheers,

Nice take Mats! As usual I dug the backing you crafted! You da man! Some sweet bluesy playing in yours.

I did these two takes yesterday before work. Both clip 1 is with the amp in loose mode and clip 2 is tight mode. Both takes are with the Hot Rubber Monkey switch ON.

    Clip 2 http://www.scottlernermusic.com/glas/FrogHRMChoke20uf.MP3

Hope ya dig... (These were done as amp tone tests as usual and were just quick hit record and wank away takes)

    Hi Maister Scott,

It just kills me when I listen to your takes. Some of my last tunes were actually recorded with you in mind. I just soooo much want to learn how you choose your notes.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

BTW, what amp are you using?

    Cheers,

    Mats N

    Hi Marcello,

Guitar Rig 2 is indeed nice for many things. It will however not make me sell my Boss GS-10.

My next BT will also be GR2.

    Cheers,

    Hey Mats,

that was a really great solo. A bit different from your usual thing.

I'm really impressed with this GRig thing....I've tried before but I couldn't get rid of the latency...any suggestions? thanks

    Marin
