Speaker Cables - what connects to what?

    I'm making a speaker cable. I have some 2-strand wire and 2 mono phone ends. I used to do this all the time as a kid but for the life of me I'm not sure whether to solder the two tips to the same strand, or a tip and a sleeve to the same strand.

    And apparently Google thinks this is too obvious to have any info on. :huh

    you can do either and it will work, but if a tip and sleeve are connected to each end of one strand, you will reverse the polarity of the signal. it will sounds (just about) the same either way, but if you are used to running two amps or multiple speakers cabs together, best to keep the polarity the same as you usually have it.
