I have a 72 Deluxe "blackfaced."
Any recommendations for a replacement speaker?
Welcome! Hey, you absolutely have got to use the Search function for this type of question. I'll get ya started, here's the same subject in another thread on this very page:
Great speaker....I have these in both of my Deluxe Reverbs.
I just put a Weber 12F150T (C12NQ, in the old parlance) into my Allen Accomplice, which is basically a BFDR with the bright "switch" disengaged. It's really a great sound - it has the big, beefy low end of the regular C12N, but with a sweet, crying top end from the Q cone. Highly recommended...
I've got a similar black faced DR, and switched out the original Utah, and put in an Eminence Texas Heat. It's gig tested, and I'm very pleased. Much tighter low end (for a 20 watter). COT50 in front, and get outta' my way!
I put a Weber 12F150A in my Carr Rambler, and couldn't be happier!!
Eminence's Red White & Blues
that's what David Allen is favoring in his DR like amp (Accomplice)
When Duke Robillard came through here a couple years ago he was using a DRRI with a Celestion V30 in it. A friend's BFDR sounds collosal with a vintage Jensen P12N. My 18w amp is a GA-20. I use a Jensen P12Q in it that sounds great.
Hellatone 30 (G12H30)....tames the icepick, tightens the flub, sounds great in my '69...
I just had my 69 DR serviced by David Allen. He put in a new Eminence Red, White and Blues speaker and it sounds wonderful. I only have about 10 hours on it so I am hoping for tonal heaven once it is really broken in.
BTW can anyone tell me how long it takes to break in one of these speakers? thanks!!
Does the frame have eight mounting holes?
