Say you have a 40 watt rms (roughly) amp (2xEL34's tube rectified) in combo form with a 12" hole. Your favourite speakers are Greenback, indeed you are looking for a Greenback type British sound but it's only a 1x12".

Which alternative speaker would you suggest?

    Best, Pete.

Pete - the Eminence Private Jack is pretty much their take on a GB, but with greater power handling.

    Dave,
I checked out the specs on that and the power rating is right but it kind of looks too efficient compared to a GB - unless I'm reading the specs wrong!
You haven't got a clip of one have you?

    Best, Pete.

Go to the "SOUND" section on that website and there are some soundfiles of several different speakers that were A/B'd.

BTW, I own 2 SA-12-75's and 2 SA-12M-75's and they are amazing speakers.

No, Pete, you're reading it right. The Jack is more efficient, but tonally they're very similar. If you want the earlier breakup, then, in the words of Emily Littella, NEVER MIND!!

Check out a weber silver bell 50 watt. Real nice british tone. Or if the power rating is too close, try a weber 1265, it 65 watts.

Plain Jane, but sounds pretty good - anyone tried The Governor in a 1x12 open back?

    Great suggestions btw.

    Best, Pete.

I second the Weber 50w Silver Bell. It's Webers take on the Greenback copy. It's probably a hair louder than the greenback, but sounds great.

It might be a bit overkill, but I just replaced the 90W Black Shadow in my 1x12 Thiele cab with a Eminence Delta Pro 12A. I also installed a Weber Beam Blocker. It sounds great and can handle a (claimed) 400 Watts RMS. I like it better than the EVM 12L in my other 1x12 Theile cab. The Delta Pro is much smoother sounding.

I have tried it with my Mark IV and Dual Rec. Both sound great thru it.

Tomo, I love the Red Fang but it is a bit marginal on a 40 watt RMS amp, no? Don't forget it's a combo with one 12" hole...........Speaker must lean to the Brit side of things...........
What's in your Pro Reverb again?

    Best, Pete.
