So for the longest time my go to close mic speaker was a Vintage 30 and my fave in the room on 4x12s a Greenie. With a X pattern V30/Classic 80 as a close second for more modern stuff.
In my 2x12s I used to use Classic 80s for I don't even remember how long.
always liked how they sounded in the oom, never bonded with them close miked.
So I've been experimenting with speakers...
Fave 4x12 is still Greenies, these day the Heritage.
Close miced iso in my studio has become a Celestion Gold, and I still o occassion go back to a Vintage 30.
For the last 4-5 month my go to cab has become my 2x12 with a set of Golds i it. And I just loaded another cab wit Heritage 65s. Dayum I dig those speakers. They're like best out of all of them, the only "bad" thing I could find is that they don't have as much a signature sound as say a Greenie. But yeah I'm a fan.

    Ed,

How does the Gold compare to the V30? I have been using a V30 (avatar hellatone60) with my Budda Superdrive 18 and my Bad Cat Lil'15 and I was wondering what the Gold might sound like in a 1x12 cab with those amps. Not sure I could get away running a blue with those amps in a 1x12.

None of them were broken in, but then again they are after their first gig. :)

Has less honk in the mids, and a more pleasant top.
I think they would be great in a 1x12 for that amp.

+1 on the 65s. They sound great in the room AND miked up! My favourite Celestion.

    Ed,

How is the low end? I am loving the thump I get with the V30 since the other guitar player in my band plays an acoustic.

    Yep,
Love the 65's too...Scott turned me onto them.
I have a Two Rock 212 cab which I use vertically.
    Bottom spkr: TR1265
    Top spkr: Heritage 65

Sounds GLORIOUS with my Fuchs or K&M Custom.

I don't have a V30 in the same type of cab. That said from what I recall that cab to my ears didn't have enough bottom with neither a V30 or a H30, but thumps plenty with the 65.

    At least on speakers. :)
I think we're still just about polar opposite on amps and planks. What are you favoring these days? Still those Bakers?
Take a look i the smal;l luthier section I posted pix of the new Tele that I'm having build.

You'd be surprised.... I have an Anderson hollow T coming, and I have my eyes and ears on a nice Ruakangas. As far as amps, you would love the feel and tone of my current rig. Most likely very similar to the Carol Ann OD2 in feel and tone.

Dude, they're about to revoke my "Golden Ear Club" membership since I've been gigging with a Spider Valve. :)

The 65 watt Celestions are great sounding speakers. Back in '85 I got a cheap deal on an '82 Marshall 2203 half stack. The cab has the 65's, and they never fail to please. Numerous engineers and sound guys have commented on how great that JCM800 cab sounds.

    Enjoy.

Ed- I have some original 65s in a 4x12 that is my go to cab...ever used the originals? I'm curious if someone has compared them.

    Cheers,
