    Newbie here...

I use a Bogner Shiva EL34 model. I use the amp for both it's clean and gain. Currently I own a Mojave 4x12 G12H30 cab. I do not feel this speaker set up favors the Shiva. I am trying to decide what to do.

I am wondering if one shouldn't use a MIXED speaker setup with a Shiva (re: X Pattern) or all one speaker type? Any new and creative ideas?

Do I keep the mojave and change the speakers OR get a Bogner cab? Bogner makes some killer cabs!

I like classic tones up to hard rock type gain a la Hendrix, Beck, Trower, Gilmour, Santana, Dickey Betts, Matchless and Marshall type amps.

    Any ideas?

I didn't like the H30 with the Shiva. The V30 or the CL80 or a combination of both is what works for me. You may also want to try some of the Eminence Patriot and Red Coat line. I just started getting into them and they are super nice. The Governor or Wizard or even the Swamp Thang would probably be really nice in a 4x12 with the Shiva.

CL80. Played a shiva with that speaker and it sounded great .

In my combo, I have a CL80, which sounded great. But lots of high-end sizzle. Modern sounding.

I just switched to V30, and it sounded much rounder and more vintage. I like it.

Absolutely...........V30s are the way to go with the shiva.
I tried them all and the v30s are the smoothest too.

I had a Bogner 4x12 with my Shiva.

I had an X pattern and it sounded great live. CL80's and V30's. I recommend that or even (gasp) G12T75s and V30s...also sounded pretty rocking.

Not to speak for Scott Peterson, but I know he used H30s and V30s in a 4x12 with his Shiva, and he used to rave about those.

I tried and H30 and a V30 in a 2x12 with a Bogner Ecstasy Classic, and didn't really like the blend. It's kinda unfocused. Could be the Ecstasy, or just me.

So basically the G12H30 is not the way to go per se

But the 30/80 mix or GASP the 75 MIX might work, eh?

    IIIIIINTERESTING?

Anyone ever used the Blues or Golds with them? I used my Marshall 100w with a Hot Plate and Blues in a Vox cab once - I was blown away. It was like a chimey plexi at 5 with the vol rolled back. Put up the volume control on the guitar and it had attitude.

I spent some time this weekend playing a Shiva through a Top Hat Supreme 16 cabinet - it's a 2x12 open back with a Blue and a G12H-30. It sounded fantastic. I also used it through a Dr Z Z-best with a Vintage 30 and a G12H-30. That also rocked... though it sounded very different.

That IS a great combo with the Shiva. However it isn't practical with the 80 watt version...I wonder if a Blue Dog / Wizard would do the trick?

have tried various combos of speakers w/ my EL 34 Shiva and have always come back to the 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 cabs w/ Vintage 30s. the gold sounded good on the clean side of the amp but overall vin 30s worked the best to my ears.

Have anyone tried Eminence v12´s or Swamp thang´s with Shiva EL34 head? I hate V30 sound and I want to change Eminence speakers to my Bogner oversized 2x12 cabinet. V30´s sound too crispy, I´m searching kind of SRV tone.

Yeah, I've had great luck X'ing either two V30s or G12H-30's and two high wattage speakers of your choice I personally like G12T-75's but I also have tried some of the Eminence speakers (Patriot, Red Coat, etc.) and they're nice but just not for me. So I usually tell people to try to familiarize themselves with a number of 30 watt and 75-80 watt speakers and find your tastes. There are a lot of great speakers out there and most of the time it is very subjective as to which one sounds "best". However, the idea is that you have two lower-wattage speakers that provide you both your speaker break-up and your warmpth and two higher-wattage speakers for speaker headroom in the clean and clarity in the distortion. I have an Ubercab with this setup and it has served me quite honorably!
