I'm trying to find out what speakers were in my 66 Super Reverb. My tech pulled the speakers outta my 73 Super cuz they were CTS Alnicos and said the speakers in the 66 were not nearly as good. I can't remember what he said they were. I found the codes and 1377318 from the 73 I see are CTS Alnicos but the old speakers coded 6351002-2 I can't seem to find anywhere. Any help? They are old looking Fender speakers.

What do the frames look like, are they kind of 'swiss cheese' looking?
If they are, then they very well might be some really nice speakers.
I had some in a 66, 2 had been reconed - just heaven.

look on the frame and magnet for manufacturing codes:

Credence 117
Pyle 1098
Rola 285
Eminence 67
CTS 137
EV 649
Oxford 465
Altec/Lansing 391
Utah 328
Quam 270
Jensen 220
WeberVST 1279

1377318 the 137 CTS, 73 18 is year 73, week 18

Not sure about 635

VintageKnob... yes I'd say swiss cheese looking is a good way to describe them. Holes with a couple of different shaped cut into the frame.

Let me find a pic of mine, I know I have one. You can compare. If they are the same - they are in the "grail" category of super speakers IMO.

I'll get back to you.

Yep...looks like the same speaker. My amp guy put my CTS Alnico's from my 73 in my 66 though. This pic is the 73 with the less desired speakers. What are they. No codes on mine.

the ones vintageknob posted look like oxfords.

CTS's have a square alnico cover and are a bronze-ish color. at least the ones in my 66 are...

They look like the speakers in my '66 Pro Reverb. They are Oxfords.

I'm confused. The speakers in my '65 Super look like the ones being called Oxfords in the previously posted pics but the speaker code would suggest they are CTS by the 137 stamped on the magnets. Specifically, there are two sets of numbers: 5810025 and below that 137 446. Would appreciate some clarification...thanks!

These ARE CTS made the 46th week of 1964 (446 - first digit (4) represents the year and the following two digits (46) indicates the week of manufacture)

Thank you both for your responses. Do you know if they are alnico or ceramic? I love the sound of them except for the flubby low end. I play a standard strat and keep the bass EQ at 3 or lower but the lower strings still sound pretty mushy. Despite Vintage Knob's high praise of the "swiss cheese" model, I've also heard that these pale in comparison to the other original speakers used in these amps, the ones with the square magnets. I wonder if replacing them with these speakers would tighten up the bottom end any. Perhaps, the ones I have are simply used up (they are 46 years old, after all). Comments and/or recommedations are welcome.

You need to do a search here for speakers in general.

Much depends on the overall condition of any given speaker (which will vary widely).

You cant depend on any individual speaker being better overall,,,,,many speakers from the 60s-70s are very worn (suspension, magnets weakened etc).
