Looking for good examples of players with speed and clean technique that anchor their pinky. The one who comes to mind is Petrucci, but I'm sure there are others out there. I'm mostly a legato player who uses my left hand to shape phrases, and I anchor my pinky. It works great for my legato style since I frequently palm mute to soften the attack of notes. I think its holding me back when it comes to really fast alternate picking passages though. Before I completely overhaul my technique and float, though, I'm curious if I can make it work with smaller adjustments. One observation I've had is that when Petrucci anchors his pinky he seems to be placing the side of his pinky on the pickguard, whereas I anchor more on the flat part of my pinky. Maybe the slight difference in angle frees up the wrist to move faster?
