I've been playing a couple of different Fender 52 re-issues at Guitar Center and -- for my money -- they're the best. Almost pulled the trigger on one this weekend that was marked down from 1350 to 1150 for the Labor Day Sale, but just couldn't quite do it.

Try to find a used Custom Shop NoCaster. If you buy new, look at the 52 AVRI and 52 Thinskin. 62 AVRI and 62 Thinskin are very nice too. It really depends on what you're looking for in a Tele.

Talk to Ron Kirn and have one hand-made to your specifications for around $1500.

You could buy a used Anderson T for about that. I think it smokes the Fender stuff.

Also, a Melancon. His Ts are cool.

Then I'd look at G&L if it were me. WAY cool teles in my opinion.

What kind of neck are you looking for?

If you're into bigger necks, a Robin Rawhide is a great axe.

The used Nocasters on ebay are nice. You can get a brand new butterscotch 52 reissue for like 1300, but go with a Nocaster if you like to have a baseball bat as a guitar neck....god I love those things.

I'd look at the American Vintage Reissue line. There are several models and a few more if you count special dealer orders and thin skins.

I really like my 52 Reissue as well. It was great , right of the wall, playing-wise. I just set up the harmonics and away it went. Oh yeah, I had them put the modern wiring in, with a 4 way switch

Another vote for the Thin Skins.

My AV52 and AV62 are great guitars.
