I have had the 2x12 for about 2 weeks now and it still has a VERY noticeable new amp smell.

    Not good.

Anyone able to recommend a way to get rid of this?

    Thank you.

Or you could just do your own relic-ing....ya know, spill some beer on it, let a cat pee on it, blow cigarette smoke on it, those sorts of things.

You don't like new amp smell? I like it just as much as new car smell.

The Spider Valve is awesome! I think the heavily compressed lead sounds are some of the best I've ever heard. It seems to nail the processed Vai sound!

It goes away. Give it a while longer.

How does it measure up to stuff like the Vox Valvetronix or a Line 6 combo?

People pay a lot of money for that smell.

Personally, i like it better than the VOX Valvetronix simply because you have many more options at your disposal playing live. With the VOX stuff, you have 2 "save"-able channels. To get more sounds on stage, you have to tweak all the parameters between songs. The Spider Valve with the foot controllers (I have an FBV shortboard) are very versatile and you can do a ton without touching anything. The Spider Valves also kill the regular spider amps via the Bogner tube amp.

For more info on the Spider Valve amps, check out this thread...
