Can't decide if I like the early stuff. Late bloomer and it's tough for an MTV kid to get I Got You out of my head.
Sweet Dreams is on one of my favorite old college radio cassettes from around 1977. The Mellotron/bass break is sooo good.
That sax solo at 2:30.
Saw Split Enz a couple of times in Auckland. Great shows. One was a free New Years Eve concert at Mt Smart. Magic times sitting on the grass bank before they put all those grandstands in.
Saw them open for Tom Petty, on the Hard Promises tour. Pretty good show... <g>
Finn Brothers, still cranking out great tunes...
I've always like this band. I remember them pre MTV days on early cable channel called Music Video Television. I liked the other projects that stemmed from this band too, during the MTV days. Very unique and creative bunch.
I know Neil came late to the party, but that guy is a pop genius on par with Paul Mcartney. Split Enz, Crowded House and some amazing solo stuff (I think Try Whistling This is one of the best albums, end-to-end of the last 50 years).
Apparently, Paul concurs.
Neil wrote the good stuff in split enz IMHO. I like the early I see red album.
I have a great beta tape of their videos. Suppose its all on YouTube though.
Always loved 'I See Red' and 'Six Months in a Leaky Boat' -- one of the first bands I really got into. I was about 8 years old and I used to the blast a cassette I had and play air guitar to it.
Love 'em. Love CH. Love Neil too.
I love Neil doing acoustic covers of all the Split Enz and CH stuff, it's magic.
Fav Split Enz song for me is "I See Red".
I love 'em too. So much to like.
Also one of the coolest vinyl LPs ever...
I honestly don't know anything they've done besides "I Got You" and "One Step Ahead", which I think are great tunes. Will have to check out more of their stuff at some point...
